Well...a third Team Canada (Canada/U23s). With Kopitar. Cant forget Kopitar.

I think Gaudreau is simply a better player right now.

Gaudreau is a great player but I think your opinion is being swayed by what jersey McDavid wears. I think if you polled all non-Flames and non-Oilers fans, the result would be 95% in favor of McDavid.

Are you kidding? That is ridiculous. McDavid might very well become the best player in the league but right now Gaudreau is better.

Meh. At worst it's too close to tell. It's like saying Jamie Benn is better than Patrick Kane. There is no clear difference between 13 and 97 that should make someone want to proclaim that Gaudreau is definitively better.

Wow that surprises me, maybe it's me who's out to lunch I suppose but I think it's quite clear who the better player is right now.
Would be interested in hearing from some others.

All this talk - in three separate threads - criticizing McDavid is embarrassing.
Is he over-hyped? Of course he is, that's what the media does. Who cares?
Is he the best player in the world right now? Of course not. Could he be, some day? Sure, maybe. We'll see.
But putting him down is just as silly as those that falate him shamelessly.

McDavid is better. I say that bregrudingly. Johnny is amazingly savvy but I saw some Oilers games last year where McDavid's line with Maroon and Eberle were dominating like I have never seen Johnny-Monny-Anybody dominate. McDavid has an uncanny ability create a Johnny level dangerous chance and immediately follow the miss/rebound... four or five times in a shift. He is a one man sewing machine hemming the opponent in. Johnny can do that on his best shifts too but not to the same extent because he doesn't have McDavid's speed, leverage and reach.
That said I think anyone saying McDavid is already the best player in the league is an idiot. Malkin, Crosby, Bergeron, Kopitar, Benn, Barkov, Kane, Price, Schneider, are at least better right now and I would still take Brodie and a few other blueliners for next season over him too (Vlasic/OEL/Doughty/Keith/Hedman/Karlsson/Suter).

Perhaps that may have something to do with the fact McDavid is continuously shoved down everyone's throats through the media.

I will agree that is very annoying. I'm actually happy Toronto got Matthews just because there's only so much air/screen time to go around.

All that domination sure led to a pile of wins eh? Fun fact: Oilers record with McDavid is worse than without him.

McDavid was an 18 year old rookie last year and in true oilers fashion was burdened with carrying the team on his shoulders. We are comparing an 19 year old to a 23 year old. I love Johnny but McDavid is or will be better.

Yeah, I think the consensus is he can do better. Whether it is the additional pressure with the captaincy or still trying to adjust to playing with talent, he doesn't look quite right yet. I think that is pretty high praise considering how dangerous he has been for stretches.

honestly I don't think anyone is actually criticizing McDavid...its more about the media who acts like he is the only player on the team when there are more accomplished players out there. Also the guy does need to use his teammates a little bit out there. He is becoming very predictable going to the net at 100 miles an hour every time he gets the puck.
