To quote myself from earlier.

Personally I still don't really think marihuana is a terrible drug, at least not relatively speaking.

It was a bad situation, but out of all the things a child can consume large amounts of, we're extremely lucky it was "just" weed.

BTW and FYI, a cannabis overdose is pretty different from just "freaking out". I'm guessing based on your comments that you've never seen one.
Originally I was talking about this, in response to Thor, who was being sceptical of the need to change existing laws.

And I think this has everything to do with the criminalization of drug use.
If you want to get specific, IMO we should take a new more open-eyed look at each drug and legalize the ones that are low-harm (such as weed, but probably some others too) and decriminalize the rest.
I also think we should make it possible for companies to develop drugs for entertainment purposes legally, so that entertainment drugs would enter the market the same way other drugs do, through rigorous testing.
It would be a much better situation than the current system where drugs enter the market generally without any consideration for the safety of the user. The stronger the better because they're easier to smuggle and hide, and the more addictive the better because it creates more loyal customers.
