Well at least you've lost respect for those involved with absolutely no facts or pertinent information whatsoever.
That's the important part.

Wow. Well Burke really reassured us there....
If these two don't want to be here we might as well hit reset.

Yes. This must be it. They are greedy and should have signed right away without taking time to negotiate. Really it's only a work contract spanning 6-8 years, the rest of us sign on for longer all the time to out current jobs

Honestly if I'm Monahan but especially Gaudreau, I have probably most of the leverage in this situation, and I'm going to be asking for a lot.

It bothers me when either side uses media to put pressure on negotiations. That goes for players and management. Would much rather Burke just keep statements like this to himself. No good can come of these kind of things.

He was a bit more blunt at the end but other than that I don't think he really said anything crazy.

I'd be shocked if either player was holding out. This "process" is taking longer than I had anticipated it would but alarms aren't ringing yet.

I don't have a problem with what Burke said. He's absolutely right. They need to pay what's fair and not overspend. The ultimate goal of the team is to build a cup winner. You will have a much greater chance of building a winner without overpaid contracts all over the roster. That includes your star players.
It's pretty obvious to me that the players' agents are pushing for big time money contracts. Treliving is trying to build a winner and get both to take a discount. I have no problem with that. To me it's not a case of 'sign both players no matter what'. I want the Flames to have a wiggle room down the road should be ever become contenders. If that means this takes all summer to get done, then so be it.
Short term pain for long term gain.

These are going to be huge deals. Yes, I am surprised its taking so long, but at the same time, hopefully everyone is doing their homework before throwing huge money around.
The players probably want a lot of money to be bonus for fear of lockouts, and agent/GM are ironing out the details. That's my guess anyway as to why it's taking so long.

Monahan is represented by Newport I believe which is a notoriously difficult firm to negotiate with. I have no doubt they are pushing for the most money of the recent RFA centre's that have signed (Barkov, MacKinnon, Schiefele). Pure speculation but if the agent wanted Monahan to sign an offer sheet to get the contract that they want would he do it? Monahan has been steadfast in his desire to stay in Calgary and be a Flame long term.

Is there really any evidence the players agents are asking for gigantic contracts? Or are the Flames low balling them?
We just don't know. What has come out through the press has all seemed rather bland.

Whatever the story is, can't help but feel nervous about the situation. If they were close you'd think all parties would have preferred to have this done. Approaching end of Aug and burke's comments seem to reveal that they're still deep in negotiations which is s bit disappointing.

I remember when Burke was asked about the Kessel trade he said he had no problems overpaying in order to get the player(s) he wanted. It seems that same philosophy doesn't apply when it comes to signing RFAs.

Gio signed at the end of August last year. Don't recall if there was much panic back then, but probably.

He wasn't an FA for another year though.

I guess what I'm getting at is that it took forever to get him signed too. This is just how Treliving operates with the star players.

Really? Because if those two players leave, Treliving basically has to restart the rebuild. They're in almost total control of this. Not every player is going to take a discount. If they can't fit them into their plans then expect short term deals.

There's nothing to worry about. These players will sign. Management would never let these players walk. It's just taking some time to hammer out the details and make sure the contracts are completely fair for both sides... Trust in the process
