Not denying the source at all but at this point, if you have an offer shouldn't you sign it. Team makes a different move and it is gone. His options must be pretty limited.

I think I'll trust my source but thanks anyway.
I can confirm Russell did get married on Friday. And dozens of legitimate scouts fit the same type of profile. So not sure why this guy's info would be discounted on that basis.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Kris Russell camp is still waiting for a few teams to clear money. Free agency can be a tough waiting game.

Sounds more and more likely that they're trying to get a deal done here.

It still astounds me that a team is 'making room' for Kris Russell. It sounds like a big deal.

They can say what ever they want. IMO he overplayed his hand at the start of free agency. As for "clearing money", that's not as easy as it sounds. Trades are tough without taking similar amount of $'s back. He will get signed, but I highly doubt its going to be anything close to the $5+ million and term that he was looking for on July 1st.

If he is from Caroline I would be gobsmacked if he wasn't related to Russell.

Yeah, maybe they're not actually 'clearing money'. Maybe they're waiting to get the bigger signings done...

lol I don't Kris Russell on this team for anything more than 2.5

He's going to get exposed if we revert to a defensive system.

I wouldn't worry about it. There is no room for him and Wideman is untradeable.

That is absolutely a euphemism for "Russell is a very low priority for anyone interested in him". Yeah the Russell camp did not play this well seemingly. Seems like his best bet is a 1 year show me deal.

I think it's very likely Flames are in the mix if that's the situation.

Yeah the only positive of Widemen right now on the roster is that he likely prevents the team from signing Russell. I would rather one more year of Wideman than four or five years of Russell.

I think the 4-5 year term is not happening for Russell. If he comes back it is a 1-2 year deal. Very rare a UFA in August scores more than a 1 year deal

Am I the only one who still likes Russell? Even at $2.5M?

No, dumping Wideman and bringing Russell back would be fine by me.

At $2.5M I'd be ecstatic to have him for maybe....3 years tops.

But if that was the deal it likely would have done already and that is absolute top-dollar that I'd pay for Russell. Not a cent more. He'd have to pay for his own hotel rooms!

There's still a better way to use $2.5 million.
