You could argue that the trade is even or even that Weber is better for the next year or 2. But in 3-4 years this is going to be very bad for the Habs...let alone in 2026 when Weber is finally off the books.
Sure, Weber is getting older, but some of you talk like he's washed up. And yes, he had a bad series in the playoffs. But the 'what have you done for me lately' attitude is way over the top here, IMO.
Weber is far better than PK defensively, and I expect he will be for some time because PK takes too many risks. The Habs need to settle things down in their own end and he will help with that.
For now, the Habs save money. Over time, that reverses. And of course, time will catch up with Weber at some point.
Overall, IMO, an understandable trade from both sides.

writing was on the wall when Subban wasn't made captain after he signed the big contract.
no reason why the team went the 14-15 season without a captain

I didn't realize people were this down on Shea Weber. Wasn't it just last year people were creating a new award for defensive defensemen to give to guys like Weber instead of guys like Subban?
My guess is that whatever financial and personality factors were involved in their decision to move Subban, the Habs also felt they have a top pairing guy coming up sooner than later in Sergachev.
Weber's value is over inflated due to his name.
Subban's value is under valued due to his name.
I have it the reverse. Subban is slightly overrated due to his offensive flair and Weber seems to be underrated lately. He's one of the toughest dmen in the western conference to play against. He's big, strong and physical and has a bomb from the point. He's still an elite dman IMO and has better defense and physicality than Subban

I knew PK was leaving MTL. What a strange trade. Clearly they didnt like him in the locker-room, off the ice or just some of his antics.
I am a big fan of PK Subban. He strikes me as a joker. Someone who just likes to enjoy himself but is a great person who doesnt mean harm. Maybe sometimes he comes across as a bit unaware of how people may perceive his actions.
I'm just happy he's been shipped to Nashville and not any team in our division.
Montreal loses this one for sure. When will GM's realize that these perceived "character" flaws in talented players should be things to live with, and more the coach and team has to manage it. Talent still wins and you can't give up arguable elite talent for character players. It's a fatal flaw in yesterday's thinking. When the Leafs gave up Kessel for nothing it was a joke as well. Montreal of all teams really doesn't have much trade wise going for them, so losing a near elite d-man for Webber at this stage of his career, with that contract is simply bad asset management. With both Chiarelli and Bergevin, you have to think they run their show with more of an iron fist than a committee decision (or with a bunch of yes men), because I'm sure if you have a proper supporting cast they wouldn't let these types of deals happen.
