Just because I know this has come up in a few of these cases, this is what I mean when I say I don't think the solutions to SA can be located in the justice system. A big problem is that police are woefully untrained to deal with SA, and it's a big reason why survivors don't come forward.

....In other news, Lucy DeCoutere quits Trailer Park Boys, and throws co-worker under the bus:

This is pretty sad, considering Mike Smith (Bubbles), had publicly shown support for DeCoutere in public, during the Ghomeshi affair.

Someone being charged with something, not convicted, but charged, and she closes the book on him?

I don't like her.

Given what she just went through you can fairly cut her a bit of slack, I would think.

She's coming off pretty poorly in all of this. Gets caught colluding to "bring this guy down" in the Gomeshi trial and then immediately quits the show that made her career when she hears of the actors arrest, before Bubble's girlfriend comes out and states that it was overblown and that witnesses didn't actually see anything.

"If I find out that somebody is abusive, I cut them out of my life. It's very easy," DeCoutere tweeted earlier Saturday afternoon.

I find her stance hypocritical, considering she did not even do this with Ghomeshi, after he allegedly assaulted her.

Having said that, she may be suffering from some sort of trauma, given what went down in the Ghomeshi trail. It does seem somewhat self-serving, considering she has worked with Bubbles for 15 years.

I'm not saying she's clamoring for attention, but she's been the most vocal of anyone since the Gomeshi allegations surfaced and this quote from the story about quitting TPB's to make a powerful stand against abuse is very important.

Quote:
Publicist Shelia Roberts said DeCoutere told the show's producer a few weeks ago that she would not be returning next season. "This does not come as a surprise to us," Roberts said in an email.
This was her last season no matter what, so how much filming is left in this season?

Decoutere seems like a publicity hound. Hard not to say otherwise.

Yeah, I didn't want to say it for fear of posters equating it to victim shaming/blaming, but she does seem to see herself as a face of abuse publicly.

Which would actually be fine if not courageous/needed if she was going about it right, but when you get caught lying/colluding in a major trial, then make a big dramatic show of quitting a series while speaking out against a co star who stood behind you before the facts come out AND it turns out you were basically done being a part of the show anyways?

It comes off very poorly and almost does a disservice to other victims out there.

But at least she isn't "doing her gender a disservice" or some nonsense.

What's interesting is that DeCoutere's reaction here (judging Mike as guilty without knowing ANYTHING except that an arrest occurred) is exactly what I've been seeing argued for by people who think that the 'legal system is broken' for sexual assault cases. If you're accused or arrested, you're automatically guilty and you're scum, and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change that. And the victim's account can't be trusted because abuse and sexual assault is traumatic.

So basically: if you're accused, you're guilty.

But that's only if it's not you...I have an friend on Facebook who is being publicly accused of harassment, He is a big #believeher proponent but in this case it's not true and the accuser suffers from mental illness....

As far as DeCoutere goes, I don't know what is up with her, I can't read her mind ... but simplistically she's not doing it right

Update: Charges dropped against Mike Smith. Wonder if Decoutere wants back on Trailer Park Boys?

So Ghomeshi is officially innocent, but probably a creep, and definitely unemployable in a public-facing role for the rest of his life. .

Does this mean he doesn't have to live with his mom anymore?

BTW, I thought that was the best condition ever.

No reasonable likelihood of conviction.
