^^He's not gonna be allowed to post his own response ever. Not sure why he's insistent on posting it himself, no matter who or how its posted it's not gonna go over well.

He hasn't even tried to explain himself to you at all? Talk about awkward!

I honestly just want to hear the guy admit he conned us. I would actually respect him more for that, then him cowering like a twerp.

I don't suppose he offered you any hint of an explanation did he? Or at least maybe a denial of wrongdoing?

I vote the mods un-ban him then. So he has no obstacles to come clean.

Any examples? It's a quiet Wednesday night after all.

I'm particularly curious about this engagement. Where did the info that it happened in October this year come from? (That question isn't directed at you Pylon, though curious if his FB substantiates this - or his fiancees page if you can see it).

he has defended himself to me. i don't necessarily want to post what we talked about, but as an example, he mentions the xbox picture you guys talked about and notes that he has had the xbox for 2 years so its not a new purchase and also mentions that the ring for his fiance is only a cheap ring from macys not an expensive diamond or anything.

and while in both cases, they aren't bulletproof explanations (i.e. he could have pawned xbox when times were tough) that would at least help minimize the gross negligence that many feel has occurred.

overall though, while i am happy to post his remarks on his behalf, i am not going to try and defend him based on what i know as a 3rd party. thats just a losing proposition for me!

Yeah, sorry, still not buying it when he's copying and pasting his pitch..er..story on various websites and lying about his gofundme knowledge. Why not just be honest in the first place?

Fair enough.

Like I said above, some explanations (like an old xbox) may well hold water, but my understanding was that he left his cheating girlfriend, not that he got engaged on the cheap. Those stories are clearly incompatible. Unless he proposed to this gal very shortly after they met.

But perhaps I misunderstood something.

He's easy to find on social media. From there, it's just as easy to find his girlfriend.
She posted a pic of the ring (it's posted earlier in this thread)

And not to defend, but that ring doesn't look like it cost him a fortune. I believe the cheap Macy's story.

Still none of that is consistent with the sob story he sold us. All he had was his car and clothes. He's just a scumbag con artist.

She isn't/can't work, and he's paying for everything?

Could be way off base here but this looks like a guy who caught a girl he's madly in love with but can't afford to support himself much less both of them. Off to the internet he goes, abusing all kinds of previous relationships to keep the lie afloat.

Fascinating thread.

I was going to send money but decided against it. For those of you that did, consider that your loss is a good lesson, made with good intentions-- you can stand tall on your intentions even though your good nature was taken advantage of.

Also consider that the big loser in this is his fiancee, who is about to marry a con-man. Or if she gets smart and bails, the loser becomes any subsequent fiancee. Its one thing to lose a couple hundred bucks, its quite another to become betrothed to someone fundamentally dishonest. His actions do not look like a fib-- they look like calculated efforts to pull money from strangers, by playing upon their own good nature.

There are many people in the world like Ian Demler. If you sent money don't worry about it, his punishment is that he is Ian Demler.

I don't have much in the way of social media, and it seems I'd need an account to look at any of their stuff.

And I agree, the ring itself is proof of little as it could be cheap or handed down from a dead aunt or something. Same with photos of him enjoying some of life's finer things. It's the timing of these things and their consistency with his story that interests me.

From my quick look around it really seems like his GF/fiancée does work? Unless I am seeing it wrong.
