I was serious, does Edmonton have any decent 2 way players? Please educate us.

If Nurse becomes as good as Phaneuf before his leg/hip issues, I will be more worried about him than Connor McDavid. Prime Dion Phaneuf is literally exactly what the Oilers need.

Everyone who is bothering to engage with YoungGuns, this is really all you are doing:
It's fun to watch, but man I'll bet it's frustrating to be that ball.

This couldn't matter any less. The Oilers have beat us in the pre-season several times over the last few years (when it's absolutely meaningless) and gone on to be annihilated by us in h2h games over the last five years.
Relax. It means nothing.

Dion's was the most explosive defenseman in the game at the beginning of his career. It's obvious that he isn't the player who was the third Calder nominee with Crosby and Ovechkin.
His downfall is entirely injury related - If he could still move like he was 23, he'd be a 9M player.
When I watched Nurse at the World Juniors, I saw a kid who has all the tools to be a devastating defenseman in the NHL. We should be so lucky if the Oilers ruin him.

He'll be gone soon enough.
Every September, the fans from Edmonton flow in and prance about claiming this or that about their special organization. Then...they vanish. Off they go into obscurity and shadow as their team miraculously eliminates itself from playoff contention by mid-October.
It happens every September. It happens every October.

I don't know that is entirely true. A number of team mates have commented that he didn't care about the defensive zone. That is kind of telling.

Let's not exaggerate, he was a good rookie defenceman. At the time, there were many defencemen who were better scorers and/or hitters.
At 23 he was an OK skater, but not great. He had a one legged push and wasn't especially mobile laterally. Nurse is a better skater than Dion was as a rookie. His big injury which would have affected skating was a hip injury in 09. But he was a poor skater, especially that season, before the injury, so it can't be explained away like that. And there's never been a suggestion that it was something that was supposed to affect him thereafter, with no improvement.

Age. / wear and tear have slowed Dion down. But his downfall had a a lot more to do with being promoted from a middle pairing role in a historic year for power play opportunities to a top-dog role in more continually declining PPs on a yearly basis.

I agree with this, it is exactly what the Oilers need and I think Nurse is going to be a a top pairing guy within two seasons. He is good. If we are lucky the Oilers will ruin him.
I already dislike his demeanor on the ice. I hope our boys can reach him a few lessons and if that means on the scoreboard and in the win column, I am all for getting his ass sent back to jr this season. Let's hope that happens.
