While it's probably true that Bouma won't be able to maintain his style of play for as long as some players last, I fail to see the problem. He's 25. And it's not like Treliving is going to offer him an 8 year deal or anything.

He's a valuable player. Pay him what he's worth while he's worth it.

Lance Bouma scored at Crosby's pace 5vs5 last season.

He has been among the leagues top shot blockers for the last 2 years.

He has played 78 games in each of the last 2 seasons.

He is well liked by teammates and the coach alike.

He is a game changer in the eyes & strategies of opponents.

Please Treliving , please just give him his money and term so we can know he's going to be a member of our young core.
Thank you.

Bouma's value might be highest now, but you still wouldn't get much for him in trade I don't think. Maybe a low draft pick which you hope becomes Bouma in 7 years.

Guys like him are pretty easy to replace, but when you have one for around 2M who is only 25, why replace him? Not hard to move if you have to in the future.

People who discredit Bouma and what he brings outside of his skill have obviously never been part of a team with that type of guy on it.

When I played basketball our captain was a guy that played maybe 5 to 10 minutes a night, but he worked his ass off everyday, in games and in practice. He wasn't the most skilled guy, but we had to match his effort which made us a better team... we were a very hard working team. And as a skilled guy when you see someone working that hard you have a strong tendency to match it, and it's only going to make them better.

Bouma, and players like him, is the Calgary Flames. The way he plays is the identity of the Flames, balls to the wall every shift. 3 years at 2 million would be perfect in my opinion.

Bouma is the definition of team player. He is exactly the kind of guy who helps you win in the playoffs. He will get re-signed.

Bouma will be signed to a two year deal on Arbitration.
No need for teeth gnashing...he will be back.

Absolutely and they are not as easy to find for GM's like they used to be.

I missed how many people in this thread kept on bringing up Chicago because they regularly do this cycle players out thing.

Yeah, they've also won a stanley cup every time they have to do this and are tight against the salary cap from having a scary good core of elite, top players locked up.

Not a team entering year 3 of the rebuild. We can afford a 3rd liner for 2 mil. We don't have Hossa and Toews and Kane eating up our cap. Sheesh.

So... you're down on Treliving, think Bouma is Crosby, and somehow I'm the troll of these forums?

As mentioned by a few other posters, he plays all out each and every shift. He will take a shot to the teeth to prevent a d-man from getting a shot through... His heart and soul play is clearly appreciated by his teammates and coaches as they all pretty much rave about him.

His effort is infectious and you can see how much the guys appreciate it every time he goes to the bench.

He also chipped in 34 points and was a +10. He is a fantastic penalty killer and in my opinion a very important piece moving forward.

I am not all that surprised his agent is looking to get him 2.5M per season, but I personally think they'll settle around the 2M mark.

One of many unfortunately.

Nobody is down on Treliving. I was correcting the spelling of his name for Freddy, not taking a dig at our GM, who by all accounts has been brilliant so far.

All he said was Bouma scored at the same pace as Crosby when playing 5v5, which quite frankly is news to me and quite impressive.

You're clearly looking to stir the pot just asking that question, so I'll leave it at that.

Well, you said "However, it's Treliving..." as though you were calling him a moron. Or am I misreading it?

He originally misspelled Treliving's name. He has since corrected it.

Ah, gotcha. I had no way of knowing that. It read like he was saying "I agree, but you know that idiot GM of ours..."

Apologies.

a million bucks is the difference in offer for and request for contract by Bouma.
http://www.hockeyfeed.com/report-wid...ontract-talks/

1.5M offer by Flames - 2.5M request by Bouma

hoping for something like a 3 year 6 mil deal unless a 2 year deal keeps him as a rfa
