Just 2 seasons ago he was traded to the Jets for pick #74 and #124 in the 2013 draft.
It will be interesting where he fits in with the Flames relative to David Jones who had .48 ppg while Frolick had .51... Jones 2 hits per game Frolick .75 hits/game.
On the Jets Frolick's lack of physical presence was not a big deal as he always had 2 or 3 heavy playing players on the ice with him..... With the Flames I am worried he will be a larger version of mason Raymond.
Jones 28 pts in 63 games even strength.... frolick 32 even strength pts in 82 games

James Duthie asking why Frolik left Winnipeg, a team apparently closer to a Stanley Cup.

Frolik on TSN mentioned seeing Hamilton sign in Calgary shows they're putting the pieces together. Excited to join the Flames.

$4.3M for a guy that puts up 40 points, has great speed, great possession numbers, PK, etc... as a UFA signing (no assets given up), for a 27 year old is a great signing.
Period. Full stop.

If Rob Vollman likes it I like it. Probably the best advanced stats guy out there. He puts the wannabes from PuckDaddy, Snet and TSN to shame

I think this says a lot, in a positive way, about the Flames organization. I know we had to overpay, but lots of teams wanted him and he chose us.

For those not liking this signing, just remember we were rumored in on Chris Stewart.... Think about that.

Did he really phrase a question like that?
Don't understand the hype for the Jets. They have a lot of good to very good players, a lot of good to very good prospects, but that's just it. There's nothing that jumps out as amazing, truly elite, above and beyond. Lots of good and very good just gets you to 8th place in a good year IMO.

He said something like "Why did you choose to leave Winnipeg, a team that the panel considers to be the closest Canadian team to a Stanley Cup?"

And fits into Calgary's culture of huge effort every night. This is the perfect signing.
Frolik works extremely hard night in and night out.

Frolik on a player usage chart with Jets this year. Used offensively, faced top competition, good possession numbers. http://t.co/3iNqsiW1VM

Bollig would know Frolik from their days in Chicago. Both guys know what it takes to bring Stanley home!

great signing -Frolik will surprise a lot of people here in Calgary. has always been under the radar. solid 2 way. 1st or 2nd line minutes and i suspect he'll have a career year. - meaning he pushes for 55 points.

An LA rebound year or a more consistent season for Dallas and the Jets are back on the outside looking in. Not much on their roster tells me theres real improvement on the horizon. They'll still be a bubble team, very likely.
Anomalies last year (LA/SJ falling back) allowed for the Flames and Jets to make their way into the top 8. But only one team looked like it's going to sustain a playoff presence in the future, and have significantly improved their team this off season.

I think this signing was also for Bennett. Flames saw how a good veteran player helped Mony and Johnny develop and needed someone like that for Sam.

I can't say I've watched enough of him to form an opinion either way as I've more seen his highlights, but from the hockey news player profile:
Assets: Has loads of offensive flair and scoring ability. Sneaky fast, he knows how to create openings in offensive situations and dish off the puck with aplomb. Versatile, he can play all three forward positions.
Flaws: Needs to bring it every night, as he still battles the inconsistency bug. Also needs to simplify his game (at times) and be more assertive by concentrating on the safer option instead of the highlight-reel play.
Career Potential: Skilled winger with consistency issues.
Maybe this will change, if indeed true, with our established culture. Sometimes these player profiles seems to not get updated and are the player of three seasons or so ago. Again, can't claim to be a Frolik expert but just sharing what I read.

That's the team we're trying to beat and he wasn't very effective against them last year. I would love if Frolik proves me wrong and turns out to be our Justin Williams. I'm just not banking on it.
And considering a great possession players in Jooris got pushed out of the lineup for Bollig/Raymond, I wouldn't bank on that either. The only way to rid ourselves of bad possession players is to get them off the roster.
In other news, we're just a Czech Centre away from icing a Czech line:

Knee jerk? You do realize it's free agent frenzy right? Practically every deal is a knee jerk when you consider that a player you're trying to acquire probably has at least 6 other teams in his ear trying to sign him as well. 4.3 million is very reasonable on a day like today for the quality of player he is.
To be fair, every player looked like garbage in the Anaheim series. They made a lot of our players look bad too.
