The big issue with loaning players to other AHL teams is you basically lose control of their development.
An independent team will focus more on winning than development. If their coach decides his team will have a better chance healthy scratching your prospect for a stretch or giving him limited ice time, you really get no say.
If you put him on a team with an affiliate agreement with another NHL team, their priority will be to play and develop that team's prospects and your prospect will be an after thought.
IIRC with regards to Wahl being loaned to the Bulldogs, Feaster said that once you loan a prospect to a non-affiliated AHL team he is stuck playing with that AHL team for the rest of the season.
It is not something you want to do with a prospect if you are concerned about developing him.

Yeah makes sense.
For anyone that follows the NBA, the Raptors went through a similar situation last year with their top prospect.
Sent him to a independent team in the development league who benched him, it was the main catalyst in them getting their own team for the coming season.
Perhaps the Wahl fiasco was part of the reason the Flames pursued an ECHL affiliation, or did we have the Wranglers or Aces at the time? I don't remember.

Probably at the time we were with the Wranglers. Before the Wranglers I think we were with the Johnstown Chiefs which was pretty cool. The difference now is that we own the Adirondack team and plan to use it as a development team, not just a place to park a prospect who isn't ready for the AHL.

^ I wouldn't get too worried about team's official roster pages. Sometimes players go missing. There was a some excitement last year at the trade deadline when some players went missing from calgaryflames.com for a few hours.
He is still listed as #9 for Stockton on the AHL's website:

Klimchuk - Hamilton - Riley
Van Brabant - Arnold - Smith
Wotherspoon - Nakladal
Stevenson - Johnson
Sieloff - Kylington

Official roster

Granlund, Orr, Nakladal and Hamilton are missing off that list too. It also has Hartzell who was the final cut

Ryan Culkin isn't listed on the Official roster either, what is his injury status?

He is still with Calgary because he was injured in training camp. Non-roster injured.
His prognosis was 6-8 weeks in mid September. Probably back in 2-4 weeks.

So frustrating. I can't even look at those lines without shaking my head. Where do I even start?
How do you put a guy like Arnold with BVB and Smith? Klimchuk won't get his scoring touch at this level playing with Hamilton and Riley.

After checking on the Heat's Facebook page, it looks like some local fans are wondering where 7-year veteran Thunder captain and local hero Garet Hunt is. I never knew about that history before and didn't know that the Heat signed him from the ECHL team.
Just an extra body or someone for the locals to cheer? He apparently didn't play.

He is on a tryout with the Heat, they haven't signed him yet AFAIK. Had some good showings in their preseason games.

With Arnold, I think he has a really good shot of getting a call-up with the Flames at some point this season. And when he does, he will likely be on the 4th line.
So, perhaps they are just developing his skill set in a manner that will be most beneficial to the big club when that call-up occurs.

IIRC he is actually much more than that, I believe he handles media relations for the club as well. He also interned with the Lightning, not sure as what, but he mentioned it during the game as one of the Rockford players was in the Tampa Organization when he was.

Yes he does do all their media stuff. I'm fairly certain that the articles on their site are his as well.
