Experienced ref has to do better there. That doesn't get called in most rec leagues.

I disagree, I think we see a handful of calls similar to that one, or worse, before group matches are complete.

Once you reach the knockout stages, the officiating becomes significantly better.

How is someone who wants to take soccer seriously and wants to enjoy it able to get into it? That's madness that it's acceptable that games to settle who is the best in the world could be decided by a clueless ref falling for loser falling over like a small child against a sumo wrestler.

Go pick a sport where diving isn't an issue. Hockey, you know better as a Canucks fan. NFL/CFL, I'll let you watch WR's flop all the time. Guess we can make the case for MLB...so you can run with that argument.

As for clueless refs...again, in what sport aren't the officials a constant source of grief?

People just like to point out soccer is the biggest offender in all cases when it comes to these arguments but yet it's an issue in every sport. I can visit ANY OTHER thread in the Other Sports forum and pull quotes of people moaning about officiating.

He had a great game, but I don't think he'll be able to do that against better competition.
I think Neymar and Oscar are 4 years away from being able to carry Brazil to a championship.
I know it's Brazil, but I just don't see how they're considered the favourite this World Cup.

Other Thoughts: Call was bad, Croatian keeper was really bad.
They should have managed a draw today.

NBA is the absolute worse reffing.

Again watching it live, the defender's hand is on Fred's shoulder.
But unless there a clear shirt pull, can't give that. Ref failed.

He was the best player in the world in 2007 so at one point he was that good.

I meant more from just they way the look on the field and the style they play.

Aside from that call the ref did an incredible job. Yes, it was a flop and I hated seeing Fred thank God for the penalty call, that was crap.

The call on the other end where Olic goes through Cesar was fine, Olic gets the ball after he knocks Cesar over, its a foul.

Bad penalty call overall.

Pletikosa should have had the first and third goals, maybe even the penalty. Ultimately, poor goalkeeping and an inability to score did Croatia in.

As a 'Briticism;' it wasnt pretty but the more deserving team won.

I can't think of a call on a flop that has a bigger impact than ones like the one that rewarded Neymar that penalty kick in any other sport.
