You guys are all wrong, peak performances occur for players when they're not on the leafs or oilers and happen when they're on any other team because both the leafs and oilers are no good.

True, but I would say that recent performance of the Flames at the draft should allay some of that concern. Burke's current position as "president of hockey operations" as opposed to "general manager" also removes him a step from direct construction of the Flames' talent pool. So far I have few complaints about his tenure in Calgary, and this is from someone who has never been fond of Brian Burke.
Van Riemsdyk is 25, Kadri will be 24, and Bernier is 26.
As I mentioned above, these are all players that are now just entering their prime playing years, but in a situation in which Toronto should ideally be competing for the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately for them, the Leafs are not close, and they don't really look to be in the course of the next 3 or 4 years.
|
So in 3-4 years they'll be past their primes? Bernier is a goalie. What goalie is done at 28-29?

It's not the same for everyone. Bernier is a good goalie, no one doubts that. But, he'll probably get shelled because of your awful defense.

No. In three to four years these players look to be in their primes or starting to tail off, which is a problem for Toronto because collectively they are just not good enough to carry a championship calibre team.
Like I said, Toronto lacks the number of high end pieces needed, and do not look to have a great mix to realistically be a Cup contending team in the near future.

Less than that

Who knows, but he can't do it alone now, so again: how will the future be different?

Congratulations Nylander, on playing better than a guy who has yet to even play a pre-season game.

They'll be no top 4 pick with that talent. No chance.

Hahaha, a top 4 team in the East? Who are the 3 ahead of you? Pittsburgh, Boston, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York Rangers, Washington --- wait, that's way more than 3.

I think Tampa, Boston, Pittsburgh are better. After that, almost any team can make the playoffs.
The Leafs were with Tampa last season until Bernier's Injury. And once Tampa lost their starter, they too looked aweful

Top 4 in the East? Come on. First Jets fans calling their team an upcoming powerhouse, and now this? The Leafs will be extremely lucky to even make the playoffs.
I recall telling BigTuna that the Leafs wouldn't make the playoffs last year in February, and that there early season performance was deceptive, look who was right on that one.
Then you also praised the efforts of Reimer, and yet the Leafs fell apart when he was in net. So which is it? Is Reimer just not close to starter material, or is he not in large part to blame for the Leafs missing the playoffs?
Oh and Bernier did play 55 games, which is right around the number of how much actual starters do play in a season, especially considering it took him a month or so to beat out Reimer for the starting job. The Leafs were pretty much out of it once he got hurt late in the year anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered who was in net.

No. Not even close.
It took Bernier awhile to become the #1 goalie because Reimer was playing so good in October and November.

Yes with talent such as Dion 'Hit my own Team instead of other Teams players' Phaneuf, as well as the most hard working, dedicated forward in the league with Phil 'hasn't skated more then ten times in the summer' Kessel.
But hey, if you wanna keep spewing nonsense with no evidence, that's cool too. Because your not the only one Who can!
Lol Toronto will be so bad they will be sent To the AHL. And the Calgary Flames will win 39 Stanley cups in one year, no way they won't with THIS TYPE OF TALENT! Glencross is a future 50 goal scorer, Giordano has walked on water,
And Jonas Hiller has never ever even allowed a single goal in his life!

Like Dion hitting JVR? Lupul?
Then actually judge what the Maple Leafs were last year: a terribly outshot, terribly out possessed team that relied on lucky goaltending to go somewhere. Once the luck ran out, they showed what they really were, and that was a terrible, misfunctional team with a terrible coach.
And what about the rest of my post? You have no answers to that?
