Why, because they beat us a decade ago? The team that represents Tampa today has about as many links to the 2004 squad as exist to the 1986 Canadiens team that beat us.

1. None of the original players from the 2004 team are still in Tampa.
2. Stamkos is awesome.
3. It was 10 years ago... get over it.
4. By that logic, how could a Flames fan cheer for the Habs given their history?

It isn't about that. Tampa is not a hockey loving market.. Montreal is, I don't care that I live in Calgary.
That doesn't mean an instant hate for the east. Grow up. It's time to support our Canadian team.

I'll never cheer for Tampa and yes it was a decade ago, but so what?
#### that franchise. I'm cheering for a Tampa loss and that just happens to be a Montreal win.

Tampa isn't the fan base to be making that joke about. Were you thinking of the Panthers?

Flames got their revenge on the Habs in 89. Can't stand the Lightning.

Come on Tampa, you're killin' my bracket points, here. It's the HABS. They're the most non-playoff playoff team there could ever be. Other than Price, they're laughable. Then again, if I'd known Bishop would be out past the first two games, maybe I wouldn't have gone with Tampa in 6..
Stammer should be chewing up the competition against these guys.

I can't understand the hate of the Habs here...
Seriously, how many Habs fans do you encounter in real life in Southern Alberta? I'd bet the opportunities to meet one of them is rare, Alberta doesn't have a huge Habs presence, despite their huge spread out fanbase.
Since when the Habs became as hated as the Canucks, Oilers, Leafs? Indifference for them is probably understandable, but actual hatred for that likeable team is not warranted imo.
I bet some people hate the Habs here because of the Quebec factor. The Habs are located in Montreal, biggest city in Quebec and people from Western Canada hate Quebec because they hate to see their hard-earned money(i.e, equalization payments) going to a economically/socially struggling province dependant of the prosperity of much economically viable and richer provinces.
Montreal is completely ''out east''. They play like twice a season maximum. I don't see the purpose of hating Montreal as a rival.

Wow. Jon Cooper with PMS-level passive aggressiveness in his comments.

I know more Habs fans than Leafs or Oilers fans and they're classless and insufferable. It has nothing to do with being from Quebec (although this pseudo racism, us against the rest of Canada BS is typical whiny Canadiens fan behaviour).
Even around here in this thread there's so much "how can you hate the best team in history?" or "Montreal is Canada's team" crap that's annoying beyond belief.

See, your attitude is an example of why I can't cheer for the Habs.
Canada does not, and never has, competed for the Stanley Cup. It is a club title, not a national one, and I see no compelling reason to cheer for Montreal on the basis that the team is based in Canada. I don't support our giant national inferiority complex.

Because they're some of the most arrogant #### fans I've ever seen. Whether posting online or in real life. They talk as if their team is made of solid gold, and that them making the playoffs in an inferior conference in a middle seed makes them cup contenders (or in 2nd place last year, which was as flukey as Toronto being a playoff team).
You don't need to run into their fans frequently to know the fanbase and team is easy to hate. It only takes a few times to know it pretty much for life.
It has very little to do with Quebec. Some, perhaps, but not much in the grand scheme of things. That's more or less something that comes from their end, because of their attitude they put up a barrier with the rest of Canada's fans.
