He's an adult now. Although him and his family will talk, he'll make his own decision. I really don't think playing in his senior year with his brother will factor in that much. They've done (still doing) that. He'll make the right decision and turn pro.
Get a mike in a Mom's face and most moms will say the same kind of thing. They love their boys, are protective and would like them at home for as long as possible, yet realizing he is an adult and his decision ultimately comes out in the end. I think she was a bit emotional at the time too, so saying she would like grad pics fits right in. Natural sentiment.
If most mothers were interviewed in this type of situation, most would sound the same. At the end of the day, he is an adult now, and his decision wins. That's love..she's let go already. She was mostly stating her desires, and they are good motherly desires. I'd feel reinforced by that a bit if I were him.
Sounds like he is blessed with a good, caring family. It's probably a big part of what got him to where he is today.

Al Morganti: "Yeah. Well, she [Gaudreau's mom] just finished in second place."
Host: "Yeah, I was gonna say...Who's more persuasive? Brian Burke and Craig Conroy or Mama Gaudreau?"
Al Morganti: "Or his dad too...No, they're more persuasive. I think you can understand the mother coming from where she's coming from, but I think this is a done deal. There's no upside to him staying."
I can't tell from that quote whose side his dad is on...

He also de-committed because the coach that recruited him was leaving to the NHL.

Let's trust Johnny here. It'll turn out fine. Not many mothers get interviewed at the draft, so since Gaudreau is the highest profile collegiate athlete, she has her heartfelt say (albeit years later). She's entitled to that. Take it as a close member of the family whom is just beyond his teens and she's always been with.
They're a tight family and it's hard for her to let go and see him leave. I would be feeling the same way, and she is being interviewed without really any preparation. I just see it as tight dynamics and at the end, respecting his decision.

Come on bud I mean look at all the other Americans that don't sign in canada it's rare. I mean I would rather choose a place to live if the jets offered me kessels contract I'd go there for sure it's better than moving cities every year

"Right now, I'm just worrying about BC. No real set decision yet of what I'm going to do," Gaudreau said. "My mom is really concerned about my degree and me getting stronger and having a senior year and stuff like that. But, I mean, I don't know how much is left here. I've played here for three years and I've had a great three years here so far and I enjoy my time here.
"Senior year would be fun, but I'm not sure if I'll get better at hockey but I'd definitely get a lot stronger in the weight-room.
"It's a decision that I need to make pretty soon."
And make no mistake, it's his decision.
Mom means well, but this is up to Johnny.
"Ultimately, it's going to come down to what I think is best for me," Gaudreau said. "I have my mom telling me what she thinks I should do. I have advisers and family members and everyone telling me what they think I should do and what they think is best for me, but it's going to come down to what I think is best for me and what's best for my hockey career."

So, between this and the World Cup stadium thread, it seems that the Sun has now just become Snopes for Calgary Puck.
