Can someone explain to me why Canada would put two rocks in the house up 9-8 with hammer in the 10th end? Seems to me that if you just throw them through the house, you make two doubles and/or ticks and then all you have to do is peel everything Germany throws, and worst comes to worst you should have a fairly open draw. I have watched quite a bit of curling, but I still don't really understand why the top teams seem to give their opponents more chances than they need to.

It was really silly. Canada made bad decisions that entire game.

Can't believe they're wasting half of the screen showing his girlfriend.
Who cares? Show the race. No need to see her reaction throughout the entire race.

My god, I've missed Steve Armitage.

"We'll call them the first couple of short track speed skating!"
Barf. Who are these hosts? I'm sticking to the individual sport webcasts.
P.S. - Coverage overall has seemed disappointing at times too, it is so nice hearing Armitage's voice. I really don't like Carol Lane in figure skating, she was rude at times on the first day of commentating.

Jamie Campbell referred to Ovechkin as Alexei Yashin earlier.
And here I thought he couldn't be any worse than he is with Baseball.

Men's long track 500m starting soon. Canada's best chance lies with Jamie Gregg. Comes from a pretty athletic Canadian family:
Father is Randy Gregg, who was a defenseman for all 5 Stanley-cup winning Edmonton Oilers teams. Represented Canada at the Olympics twice.
Mother is Kathy Vogt, who twice represented Canada in long track (1976, 1980).
Sister is Jessica Gregg, who was the on the silver medal-winning short track relay team in Vancouver. She is in Sochi representing Canada again.
Married to Danielle Wotherspoon (-Gregg) who is also representing Canada in Sochi, in long track skating. Her brother is Jeremy Wotherspoon.

Moguls' qualifications begin in 20 minutes. Kingsbury and Bilodeau are #1 and #2 in the world, with Bilodeau being the defending Olympic champion. Marc-Antoine Gagnon and Phillippe Marquis both have the potential to make the finals, and Gagnon had his first career podium this season.
The biggest challenges will come from former Canadian Dale Begg-Smith (busy living his life in the Cayman Islands from his spyware business) and the Americans in Bradley Wilson and Patrick Dineen.

So Begg-Smith and Dineen both had terrible first runs.

Yeah, it was quite surprising. I am sure they will both make it through in the 2nd qualifier.
Calgary's own Alex Gough leads our contingent in the Women's Luge singles. She has six podium finishes this year and has been in the top 5 in the world since Vancouver. Kimberley McRae is young and talented and has a shot at the top 10, and a top 15 finish would be great for Arianne Jones.

Dale Begg-Smith messed up in the 2nd qualifier, wow. No 3rd straight mogul medal for him. Deneen moved on though and we'll have a talented field for the 1st final.
Geisenberger has a massive lead in Luge after the 1st run. Gough and McRae in 5th/6th respectively.

2.5 hours. There is 20 competitors in the 1st final. Top 12 move on to the 2nd, and then Top 6 in Final 2 go on to Final 3.
