That line for me really set the series. It's not going to be vast and far reaching, but it's about detectives getting 'theirs.' This story is over, Marty and Rust did their part, and now it moves on to the next detectives.
For me, I'm kind of curious what direction they go in. New York and the 'big city' feel seems pretty played out, the dirty south was done perfectly, so I'd like to see something done in the Midwest, the Pacific Northwest, or somewhere like that. The environment played a really fantastic role.
As far as detectives go, I'd love to see a female detective. Might be a little fresh with the Killing having recently done that, but the Killing isn't even in the same playground as True Detective.

Maybe they do a Fargo/North Dakota/Minnestota type setting?

except I just saw there is a Fargo series coming out with Billy Bob Thornton.
I like the area they are in, which is why I was hoping it would stay around there.

I'd really enjoy that. As Duff said, Fargo is already happening, but honestly I don't foresee those two shows being remotely similar, so I don't think a similar location would be of issue.

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere in here, but True Detective borrowed heavily from "The King in Yellow" story.

Slate published a season finale FAQ that answers a lot of the questions being raised. I found it useful, anyway.
Pizzolatto mentioned a premise for next season:
Quote:
This is really early, but I’ll tell you (it’s about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.
|
I've read somewhere that it was going to be based in Southern California. Of course, seeing how they portrayed South Louisiana, I'm sure it won't be the stereotypical Southern California that non-residents think of. Perhaps closer to the Barstow/Indio areas?

It is as if they're inspired and connected by the idea of the yellow king and try to "serve" that mythical concept. They've a collective belief but conduct their "work" independently. This way the yellow king can't really be "Unmasked".
2. Cohle was obsessive with this case. Major reason for that is his pessimistic (or whatever you call it) world view. This case reinforced that world view. At the end, while chasing Errol, he is not just going in to kill him, but also entering to confront his beliefs - He is entering his Carcosa as the Yellow King. He is stabbed and as he is about to embrace death, ironically Eroll prevents that from happening by asking him to take of his "mask". Cohle I think took that line to mean different than waht Errol was saying - It was Cohle's chance to "unmask" and fight back to get rid of the yellow king inside him.
I hope my ramblings made sense

Loved the show. I am not sure how season 2 can live up to this, nor how the new actors can live up to these performances.
They say season 2 is about the occult history of the US transportation system. I wonder where they could go with that. Involve the Illuminati?

That would be pretty good, I could get behind a season like that.
I decided to google train murders and I found an interesting case that involves politics and everything. Maybe loosely base it on this?

Wild rumors have swirled through Arkansas for the past 12 years about the mysterious deaths of two teenagers, 17-year-old Kevin Ives and 16-year-old Don Henry, on the railroad tracks in rural Saline County in 1987.
Initially, the boys’ deaths were said to be due to a marijuana-induced sleep. Later, a grand jury overturned that finding, and out-of-state pathologists determined that the deaths were in fact homicides.
At that point, controversial film producer Patrick Matrisciana entered the scene. Matrisciana, from Hemet, Calif., is best-known for his 1994 conspiratorial “documentary” “The Clinton Chronicles,” a mail-order film that’s an underground bestseller on the Clinton-hating extreme right.
Matrisciana’s resulting 1996 film on the railroad mystery, “Obstruction of Justice: The Mena Connection,” alleged that the teenagers were killed after they accidentally witnessed a clandestine drug deal in which top state officials were involved.
The film asserted that the boys’ bodies were laid on the tracks so a train would run over them and destroy evidence. It further alleged that two veteran sheriff’s deputies, Jay Campbell and Kirk Lane, were the boys’ murderers, and that the crimes were covered up with the help of state and federal prosecutors and — naturally — then-Gov. Bill Clinton.

The hunt for a new pair of True Detectives is on after Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson confirmed they would not be back for season 2, with Brad Pitt being one of the names rumoured to be in the frame.

I'm assuming McConaughey and Harrelson will continue to produce the show.

While they were a great combination in Seven I doubt they would do that to avoid the obvious comparisons.

Seven could probably actually be made into a pretty good 8 episode miniseries. An episode per murder and then wrap up.
Not saying that fits the format of True Detective though.
