The Oilers have now been shutout six times in 37 games this season. That's once every 6 games, and tied with the bottom-three offensively productive Nashville Predators. The Sabres have been shutout five games, the Florida Panthers thrice, NYI four times, Carolina twice, and CBJ three times.

Opposing teams should maybe start advertising Oilers games as guaranteed shutout nights.

I doubt the Bruins were offering him anything more than two years at $3 million so he essentially got his last big payday and I can't blame an aging declining player for doing that. He's got a cup so it is time to think about his family. In his position I would probably do the same thing.
The Bruins offered him nothing. He was one of the players they decided they would have to let go after last season (as seen in the first episode of their behind the scenes show).

We have no idea what offers Ference received on July 5. There was speculation that Feaster offered him a deal, but he chose the Oilers, and Feaster ended up getting Russell instead...So, that worked out doubly well for the Flames, if true.

Not just that, but he's from the Edmonton area and already has a Cup. I suspect the thought of crowning his career off by turning around his hometown team and leading it, at the very least to the playoffs, appealed. It's hard to fault the decision, but man, he's not part of the solution either.

You could make a good argument that every single defenceman on the Blues is better than every single defenceman on the Oilers.

That's how far.
And you could add Russell to the list.

Then, in their biggest trade of the season, they trade away their best defenseman!!!

So Minnesota is on pace for 100 points and the final playoff position. If the Oilers go 31-0-12 the rest of the way, it wouldn't be enough to catch them.

It is in the Oilers/CBC contract. They are not allowed to make any mention of Kevin Lowe's incompetence. Section 1. (a). Right below, Section 1. (b) is where the CBC commentators must refer to the Oilers team as "young" at least 50 times during the telecast.
