I have to think that the coaching staff and Management were not happy with MacDonald's comments after the game the other night.
Don't think it sat well that he threw the team under the bus, while not taking accountability himself.

Yup. It is hard to imagine that it was just a coincidence that he was on waivers the next day.

Yep, that's the one....Wideman made a better decision than a lot of guys who can take care of themselves would have.
smart play to not do what I thought he should do lol.

He was also pulled on October 18th after letting in 4 goals on 19 shots. Brossoit came in for relief and played almost 40 minutes and didn't let a goal past him. Again, this was definitely on Berra.
The biggest plus is after being pulled/having a bad game he's bounced back with a solid performance and a win the next night. He doesn't seem to be a mental case where one loss totally deflates him, it seems to piss him off and he wants to go right back in and get the win the next night.

Did you see the games? Unless you have, listing the stats means nothing.
I'm also not sure how what Ortio/Brossoit did in relief is even relevant to how Berra played.

Flames fans probably do.
I would imagine the coaching/management staff do as well.

I certainly care.
Regardless of how impressive his debut was, his play in Abbottsford is a bigger sample and likely closer to the goalie we will see in Calgary.
He didn't just get better because he called up. For that reason, I'm curious if he was pulled due to letting in softies or to wake up the team.
News flash: People all over the world care about many things that you do not.

I would think that as long as he keeps playing well, no one - including coaching/management - will care

While I agree with you that's important to look at a larger sample size than just one game, there have been several instances of players "rising to the occasion" and doing better in the NHL than they did in the minors. I for one would love it if this is the case with Berra. (not that he's been horrible in Abby anyway) Last night he was head & shoulders above what we've seen in the net so far this season, so let us have our dream until he proves us wrong.

Not to belittle Berra's effort...but...one has to commend the effort of the TEAM as well...26 blocked shots, the TEAM rose to battle for the kid...true, 40 some shots DID get through, but, on the whole, they were perimeter shots that the Flames made sure he had a good look at.
He may indeed be your next #1 guy in net...and if he inspires the team to battle, as they did last night, then he has to be that guy...Goaltenders that engender that kind of team loyalty can be special...
It remains to be seen if your team can A. Maintain that kind of Defensive effort, in shot blocking, boxing out on rebounds, and keeping shooting lanes clear of screens and B. improve possession, to allow 70 attempts toward the net is NOT a recipe for long term success...Your guys have to possess the puck and move it away.
Defense is much easier 200 feet away from your goaltender.

I know it was only his first game, but I thought his rebound control was very Kipper-esque.

Not much point in arguing why you saw things differently than I did, but I saw some rebounds which I think the top guys would have kicked into the corners. Plus you can hold a puck that comes in low, it's just harder.
But don't take "adequate" as a knock on the guy, I use the term in relation to other NHL goalies, which is a high standard.

Compare this to Joey MacDonald's lightning-quick cross crease sliding abilities.. LOL

Sure but that is not what is being talked about here.
I don't think anyone said that if he plays well going forward then his being pulled in the AHL will matter more than that. It was just pointed out that he was pulled twice in the AHL.
Considering past performances usually are able to help predict what will happen in the future not really that odd that fans would be interested in his past play.

I don't get Canadian networks on my television package (here in Seattle) and I have to say that It sure was nice to see the Flames get the lead story on NHL Tonight (NHL Network).
They hardly ever show the Flames game recaps, so to see them speak so highly of Berra and the teams effort was wonderful.
Not only did they show a nice chunk of the game recap, but they selected Berra ans the #1 star and did the centre ice cam interview with him.
Weeke's was going off on how much he loved R.B.

He fumbled the puck a ton and let in a bunch of goals without seeing a bunch of shots? Is that a better description? Quite frankly 3 goals on 9 shots is a pretty telling stat and absolutely relevant to the question of how he was playing when he was pulled. He screwed up and badly that night.
And if your relief goalie goes in and stops everything when you've fumbled on only a few shots, I think that does speak volumes to your performance that night as well. Your defence doesn't just magically change to stopping everything on shot 10-30 after letting you be hung out to dry on shots 1-9.
Berra has had two very weak games for the Heat. He's come back from one weak game to give a performance like he did last night with the Flames. He's also been the sole reason the Heat have won or come back in a couple of games making saves he had no right to be making. We aren't going to see what we did last night from him every game, but we are probably going to see it more often then not.
