A short handed goal at the end of a period can be a real back breaker. We'll see what the Flames are made of in the 2nd. If they play the same way they did in the 1st, they should be able to get back into this, provided Ramo doesn't give up anymore softies.

The Oilers don't have defencemen.
The Blackhawks just won the Cup with Corey Crawford...
Perhaps Keith and Seabrook have something to do with that?
Besides, we already have the potential of Gillies.

Well, everything points to a Flames win still except the scoreboard. Need Ramo to step up when called upon the rest of the game here, and if we keep playing the way we did in the first there is a very good chance of a comeback.

I don't know why you hate Troy Ward so much, but I think Calgary is finally doing it the right way.
Eventually the crappy goalies will play themselves out of a job. People can't scream for Ramo to be clear-cut #1 when he lets in shots like that.

We don't have a goaltender in the same sentence as Crawford right now.

Ramo last year: Best goalie not in the NHL.
Ramo this year: Best that he's not a goalie in the NHL.

Crawford is probably the ~20th best starting goaltender in the league.
We don't need a goaltender stealing us games until we're ready to compete. Give Gillies a shot in the mean time, and pick up a decent veteran in UFA to partner with him.

Well Conroy didn't get sent there to oversee the players for nothing and the team was not happy about how some players were handled so there is some merit to Ward not doing a great job of developing Flames prospects.

The late goal by the Leafs kills any momentum the Flames might of had going into the 2nd period. We had the edge in play and shots and yet we're down 2-0.
Will be interesting to see how the Flames respond in the second period.

Ramo is single-handedly losing this game for us. I wouldn't be shocked to see MacD in for the 2nd. When the team is playing that well and you're down 2-0 it's clear that the goalie is to blame…especially when you see how badly that 2nd one went in. He's totally off tonight.
I would be interested to see Berra brought up at some point this year once he's figured out the N.A. style of play.

Just for conversation sake.. lets say we had Rask, Varly, or a top goalie... where would this team be in the standings?

Leafs are really showing why they're winning games despite being completely overwhelmed statistically. Sometimes all you need is goaltending and finishing.

Hopefully they let it burn a bit and take some of that pissed-offness onto the ice. If they play as hard as they did in the first there's no reason they can't finish off 5-2.
