Sorry, but is being compared to Jim Vandermeer supposed a good thing?
Didn't he just do a bunch of nothing while he was here? He was just kinda..there. Haven't followed him at all since he went up to the oil.
You must have forgotten about the awesome pairing of Vanderneuf!

I actually liked Vandermeer in his time on the Flames. Stay at home, rugged decent (not an all star after-all) defencemen who would drop the gloves and stick up for his team mates when needed.
Kanzig has the POTENTIAL to be way better than that, but I wouldn't complain if he became Vandermeer.

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Kanzig at development camp scrimmage today. I was a skeptic of the 3rd rnd selection, but today, at least, he seemed worthy of a 3rd rnd pick - intrigued to see how he evolves.

I did some research recently and I discovered that less than 20% of third round draft picks ever play 300 or more games in the NHL. If Kanzig (or anyone) has a career as good as Vandermeer's it would have to be considered a huge success for a third round pick.

Vandermeer will always have my respect for making Johan Franzen turtle like a little bitch when Franzen tried to act tough in front of Kipper in the '07 playoffs.

I think that happened in the awesome comeback game during in 08/09.
And that is why I like the Vandermeer comparison. Jimmy had his flaws but he was one tough customer who always did right by his teammates and carved out a pretty decent career despite being known more for throwing punches than playing the game.
