I'm not going to argue this with you, basically because its the completely wrong thing to do. But people losing their homes in the midst of a global economic recession is not comparable to people heading to work when all is well Thursday morning and then finding out they lost their homes.
That's exactly what you're doing though.

I don't know that losing your personal effects is easier or harder than losing your job and financial security. It would depend on the individual situation.

But I do know that either situation sucks pretty badly. Why bother with making it a contest?

People don't have to be either perfect saints or complete a-holes. There is a lot of grey in between those two.

Like I said you missed the point of his post. Your probably guilty of the same thing your accusing him of. Just because he wasn't standing in your shoes and didn't word things the way you think he should have; Maybe if you took time to get to know Pylon on the forum from his countless posts you would probably know he wear's his heart on his sleeve and tends to say exactly what he feels at the time.

Ok politics and mud-slinging are one thing, but do we really need to point out how grey he is? Can we not just let the guy grow old in peace?

Here's a pic...count 5 or 6 rows down from the box to get an idea of where the water does indeed come up to.

That's an emergency exit light, they are battery powered....back up at least. You will now noticed the hundreds of them in the dome forever.

As an Oiler fan I feel bad for loss of memorbilia and legacy. I can't imagine the loss and damage there must be. Take care everyone and hope all of you are safe down there.

So they need to replace an ice plant, replace the electronics for the jumbotron, and replace 5000 seats. That is easily done in 3 months.

you're dreaming..the switchgear and central distribution panel at the service entry are down there. In addition, generators and transformers are submerged. All of these components, in addition to the hundreds of outlets and lighting fixtures will need replaced. Massive undertaking... you will be lucky to see it open in time for the 2014/15 season

I imagine the Flames lost tons of data. I would be interested to hear some kind of announcement.

Eric Francis ‏@EricFrancis 9s Flames prez Ken King just left the Dome and debunks report the Jumbotron was on the ground b4 the flooding. #yycflood

Eric Francis ‏@EricFrancis 11s @NHLFlames officials did their best to grab as many photos and other things from the dressing room before the flooding hit the Dome #abflood

Eric Francis ‏@EricFrancis 11s Flood level in Dome has subsided somewhat from row ten of seats to row 8. Press conference to be announced soon. #NHLFlames #abflood #NHL

What's not to like? you feel safe pretty much anywhere you go and I've lived in probably the worst neighborhood in Calgary my whole life and I would still feel confident walking alone at night. I've visited a lot of places and I'm not just saying this as cliché, but we honestly have some of the nicest good hearted people in the world.

We live in the best country in the world and one of the best cities in Canada. No flood will change that.
As someone who has moved away and lived in the bay area for the last 3 years, I want to second this post. The U.S. has so many great things going for it, but there's a distinct difference in the people and attitudes compared to Canada and specifically Calgary. I often get homesick, not for any "thing" in particular, but for the people and community. It's just not quite the same down here...everyone is so individualistic and self focused. I miss home and I hope everyone is doing ok through this crisis. Thoughts and prayers.

I would expect the Flames to have some sort of off site data storage.

I have to admit, though that when you consider the costs to restore the Saddledome....it's probably going to amount to the funding void for a new building. Depending on the damage, 4 months is going to be a very tight time frame to get the building repaired. Especially since every restoration contractor in the province is likely going to be booked well beyond full capacity.

Eric Francis ‏@EricFrancis 12s For those thinking the #Flames may just mothball the Dome & build a new building guess again. Dome is still needed for at least 3 more yrs
