Ignorance. The man is one of the most competitive players on the team. He doesn't give up on any goal let along "quitting on us".
His skills are diminishing. Do we need to start questioning his character?

I don't think it's his skills. He's been left out to dry every game. He seems to be in the zone to start games, then gets pelleted and it's like awe crap not this again.

All it takes is two teams to drive up the price, bidding on his services. And well, here we are apparently.

Which would indicate he's not done as a goalie, just done with this ####.

I could see the 'mystery' team, other than TO, being the Pens.
I don't think Fleury is healthy enough for a deep run.

If we get a 3rd for him, that's a long-shot anyways. Kipper is a fan favourite, not guaranteed to retire whatsoever, and given the lack of return on Iginla Feaster needs to get - at the very least - a 2nd.

That's crap. The Flames have quit on him for the majority of half a decade, leaving him hanging out to dry and Kiprusoff playing out of his mind to keep us somewhat competitive.

He's also playing like a 36 year old reflex based goaltender who's got a lottery team around him.

Vokoun has two straight shutouts and 140 minutes of shutout hockey over the last 3 games as the Pens backup.

Maybe quit was the wrong word. The team has been awful around him and he's probably fed up with his situation here at his age and is at his career.

Nostalgia is great and all, but it is better to get something for a player that will not be around at the end of the season. Kipper won't likely hang around for a rebuild, so it's best the Flames move him for an asset or two. The Flames are in the situation they are in because they refused to practice good asset management. Make the trade and move on, even if the pick is mid to late round pick. Something is better than nothing at this point.

Or do you condone just passing him off for the sake of change? If you are, I'm glad you're not GM. You have to change intelligently, not just change in general.
|
I am all for getting the best return possible. I was responding to a poster that was saying that if there was no "wow factor" that we should hold onto him. Take the best deal and move on. No point in standing pat with Kipper. That was my point.

Disagree - he's not moving around like he used to. He's unable to get out to cut down angles as swiftly as he once did - his overall agility and quickness have taken a hit.
As one should expect given his age.

It will take 2 teams that will make him a starter to drive up the price.
Kipper would not play for his olympic team unless he was named the starter. I doubt anything has changed.

We don't know his personal situation, but maybe he is distracted this year with his new born.
Saying he quit on this team is poor form.

Did you watch the Columbus game? I did, and Kipper's quit. Get over it. Iggy got traded, so lets clean house!

Agreed.
One of Kiprusoff's biggest weaknesses is his sharp angles. He's never been perfect at standing at the right angle to stop the shot. Kiprusoff of years past used to be able to make up for it by being fast and knowing where the puck was no matter how hectic the game got. In short, he made up for angles with reflexes.
Older Kiprusoff isn't as fast and can't make up for that anymore.

I don't see him accepting a trade where there is a posibility he is on the bench for the playoffs.

That's how I see it too. Most of the goals that I consider weak ones this year it seems like he's been back farther in his net than he typically would be - and does have the reaction speed he used to - to overcome a bad angle in net.

I don't see that happening with T.O. I would venture to say he'd be used in a 1A / 1B situation, riding a young goaltender's hot streak versus a veteran's experience in the playoffs.
Kipper would undoubtedly be demanding ice time from any team he gets traded to.
