From TSN:
"Alex Tanguay scored on a one-timer 1:07 into overtime to lead the Calgary Flames past the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 on Thursday night in a battle of Western Conference cellar-dwellers"

If a team's record is considered .500 or better only if it doesn't take into account overtime and shootout losses, then probably 75% of the league is playing ".500 hockey" or better.

The Flames are .500 in non-shootout games if that makes people feel better.
One more time....

The playoffs are made or not based solely on pts earned during the season.

Right now the Flames have half the points they could possibly have accrued thus far...ergo... they are at 50% or .500 of possible pts.

What's the point in arguing 0.500 ? Does it matter ?

Flames played a good game tonight and won....let it sink-in people and enjoy the night.

Typical slant from those pricks.

I don't care about the petty .500 arguement.

I am happy the Flames win and don't care about the rest for now.

Haters can keep their mouth shut.

It's not even an argument though. They had 16 points they could get. Max. They got 8 of them, which is half.

They teach this stuff to kids in grade 1.

Quite a balanced start from the Flames offensively......currently ten players on pace for 25+ points (that's 40+ points in an 82 game season).

Of course, Cammalleri and Backlund were two of them and now they're hurt....but still, nice balance.

Credit to Wiseman. I thought he had a really rough first couple games but he has really come on since that first homestand. His big shot has been a huge boost. He's very smart in judging when to use his good slapshot and when to throw a wrister on net for a tip. He's also one of the few D-men besides Brodie who can make a good breakout pass under pressure. Really enjoying this signing.

Adding Wideman I think is two fold - makes Bouwmester better

Bouwmeester needs just 1 more goal to equal his entire 82 game output from 2009-2010. His tape to tape pass to Stempniak tonight was huge.

Yes partly, adding Wideman to our top 4 has given Bouwmeester a much better D partner in Giordano.

However, I attribute Bouwmeester's early turn around mostly to Hartley, his up tempo system (with activated D) and even more importantly, what seems to be a very positive environment so far.

Hartley was the best choice to coach this team given who was available. I still think Bruce Boudreau is a top flight coach as well, but had a mandate to change his style based on the Caps shortcomings.

He's got Anaheim firing on all cylinders.

So far Wideman seems a pretty good fit in Hartley's system. If him and Brodie can form an effctive second pairing it should benefit the Flames. He's a more mobile version of Adrian Aucoin. Who despite a big contract was actually a decent player for the Flames. Cervenka reminds me of Huselius with his skill level. Hopefully he can bring it all together because he could be a really good player if he does.

Haha. Didn't mean to cause a kerfuffle. Just bugs me that's all. Saying a team has a .500 record to me implies that they are even in terms of wins and losses and would be exactly average. .500 would now not be a benchmark to aspire to or measure success by - the extra point makes .600 a more realistic point of measurement for this.

If a team goes 0W - 27L in regulation length games, and 28W - 27L in games going to a shootout, they could say "hey we have a record of above .500"

Even though they did not win a single game in regulation or overtime all year and it would be considered a terrible year and probably the worst in the history of NHL hockey. Just sayin. I realize it is all semantics, but it just kind of bugs me.

Yeah, but are you located in North America?

If you are, then you must have heard Kerr when Tanguay scored, no?
