Flames end the season going 10 2 12 to just make the playoffs with 54 points, then their overtime luck turns around...

You have a 7 percent chance of making the playoffs if you are 4 points out after 10 games.

Even with how optimistic I try to be, I simply cannot see this version of the Flames pulling a record like that with who we face. Hell we could face the blue jackets 20 times in the back half of the season and I still wouldn't feel confident.

Remaining record of 13-7-3 gives us approximately a 75% chance at simply making the playoffs and a 10% chance at leading our division.

15-5-3 gives us a 100% chance at the playoffs and a 51% chance at the division.

I hear what you're saying, but in fairness, one is a fact (actually a mis-quoted fact as they are 4 points out) and the other is a made up set of parameters that tabulates expected results of all future games and spits out a number that is only marginally more useful or accurate than a random draw. Fun for discussion but that's about it.

Only 6 points out of 3rd in the West and a faltering Canucks team.

Ironically, the year before the NHL abolishes the divisions - the structure provides for a bit more optimism in our situation.

The Canucks have a 4 game homestand coming up, I suspect that this talk about first will be put to bed by the end of that homestand.
