I would imagine they'll likely be gone when Nemisz and Byron are ready to play.

That's a very experienced defense lineup. 4 out of the 7 have NHL experience, and it's a bit older of a defense core (McCarthy / Piskula / Callahan).
I actually like that; we're going to be a talented defense core. Hopefully these older guys perform well and don't give up their dreams of playing in the NHL again, even at their ages.

The Barons have Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Pajaarvi and Hall once he gets healthy. Don't keep your hopes up too high.

i'm sure every AHL team is going to be pretty stacked/experienced. Perhaps this year, the AHL may be a better gauge of a team's 'closest to being in the NHL" prospect pool (ie. not the guys still in junior, and of course ignoring the ones out in europe).
I know i'm definitely going to some marlies games this year, need to checkout the schedule for when the Heat are in town.

So, with there being 28 players now on the roster, and they need to get it down to 25 (not counting those on IR), there's three players that need to be cut.
My prediction is that IF Nemisz and Byron aren't ready to go, obviously Olsen and Ruegsegger will stick around (and will subsequently be sent down after they're no longer injured).
The odd person out is one of Taylor or Brust. One of those two goaltenders will have to be sent down by Friday.
EDIT - And just as I post this, Feaster signs Olsen to an AHL contract: http://www.abbotsfordheat.com/news/r...article_id=157

Olson completed a four-year collegiate career with the Michigan Tech Huskies (WCHA) in March where he recorded 42 goals, 51 assists, 93 points and 156 penalty minutes in 127 games. The 25-year-old led the Huskies in scoring in his sophomore and senior years, and served as team captain for his final two seasons.

I agree with all of this. I think it's Brust that gets sent down, neother he nor Taylor really have much in terms of NHL potential anymore IMO, so Taylor gets the nod based on him earning it last year with a weaker team in front of him. Taylor and Irving have potential to be a dominant tandem IMO.
And I do believe running as a tandem is the way to go since only 12 of the Heat's games all season have a day off both before and after the game. They have 24 sets of back to backs and another 6 sets of back to back to backs, them being off away from every other team makes their schedule very tough.

I think Irving will get 2/3 of the starts. I can't confirm that, but it's just a feeling I have.
As for whether it'll be Taylor or Brust, that's a decision I'm glad I'm not making. If it's based truly, 100% on merit (like Flames management preaches), then it has to be Brust that stays up. However, if it's based solely on past achievements with the team, like you mentioned, then it'll be Taylor.
If Taylor plays like he was at the end of last season and Brust continues to play like he did during training camp and carries that into the regular season, then you can't really go wrong with either.

Bridgeport and Toronto have pretty decent line-ups as well.

Syracuse is getting a huge boost too, not only because of the lockout but because they have a new affiliate deal with Tampa who's affiliate last season won the Calder Cup

The Heat checking line(s) will have their work cut out for them this season. Bouma, specifically, better be ready to make life hell for all these young stars coming down.
Looking forward to seeing Schwartz and Taresanko (sp?) for Peoria this weekend.

Unfortunately Tarasenko is with Saint Petersburg right now, but Peoria will still be a pretty fun team to watch.

There should be a LENGTHY, DETAILED, MASSIVE (several THOUSAND WORD) interview with Troy G. Ward out in the world sometime tomorrow or Friday. Depending on when I finish transcribing.
