Great save by Hirschfeld in the dying seconds to keep the game scoreless. Also, Jackson needs to bury chances like he got in extra time. You can't miss from 2 yards out. Not a bad result, sets the team up well for the games that count. Junior Hoilett was in the stands for the game, and amid rumours that he's signed with Borussia Monchengladbach, hopefully soon he can get his international life sorted out.
Also, this commercial gets me a little pumped up for the games next week!

Why doesn't Canada schedule qualifiers in Innuvik or Iqaluit?
Because even the Canadian team doesn't want to play in Inuvik. But I like the idea of playing in St. John's or Whitehorse etc. Why don't we use our climate to our advantage too?
Here's the Faroe Islands' stadium for example. Can't we build this in PEI somewhere?
The October 12th return leg for Cuba in Toronto could be interesting (weather-wise), but it probably won't be too bad. The other two home matches for Canada are in June and September.
Great win for Canada despite the horrible pitch and heat. It should take 10-11 points to get into the hex, so this is a great first start.
For some persepctive, we already have more points in this round in 2014 than in the same round in 2010 (0 W, 2 D, 4 L), and our only other road win in this millenium at this stage was a 1-0 win over Guatemala in the 2006 campaign.
I thought they actually played really well considering all factors.
The reffing, as expected, was atrocious.
The field, was atrocious.
Lars' red card was the turning point from Canadian domination, IMO. Besides a bit of a flurry to start the second half, Canada had full control of the match until he was sent off. Two really close calls from DeRosario that would have put the game away.
Good result, I think they knew it was going to be ugly, and the game plan was get 3 points and GTFO. Mission accomplished. Shame about all the yellows now being carried.

I've long thought that we should have a national stadium somewhere like Edmonton. Playing qualifiers there in November would be automatic 3 points. The Central Americans use terrible pitches, threatening and violent behaviour and intimidation of the match officials to their advantage. I'd love to see -5c and some snow used to our advantage.
But we're Canadian and that wouldn't be sporting of us.
I doubt anyone else cares, but the U.S. beat Antigua & Barbuda 3-1 tonight. It was a rather underwhelming match, the U.S. squad seemed a bit tired, and A-B parked the bus for a good portion of it.
On to Guatemala for what will likely be a much more challenging endeavor.

It's better to win the right way. Those Central American countries cheat their way to the big tournament and then get throttled there because there is no longer an advantage.
Plus even Canadians don't like it when it's cold!

Honduras is already under alot of pressure for the game next week. A win for Canada and I think they just need to beat Cuba at home (which I think will be easier on a good pitch) and take one single point from their three remaining games with panama and honduras.
Was interesting to see costa rica stumble so early on. Also too bad Jamaica won. They are trying hard to poach Hoilett right now and I want to see them faceplant.
