I had to go to purolator yesterday to pick up a package, what a zoo. So many old ladies who apparently just have to get something mailed.

I'm not sure I understand this rotating strike strategy. I might be wrong but apparently we'll be just without our mail for one day which sucks for my zip.ca movies. But it won't matter for most other people, so what's the point for doing this from the union's standpoint?

I guess they get their name in the news everyday with them saying "City XYZ" will be next to go on strike for 24 hours.

Plus it still screws around just enough with Canada Post's business sector, to get major companies putting pressure on them to get something done.
Big businesses do not like having to plan for 2-3 day delays in different cities as this thing goes on, mostly because a delay in a customer receiving a bill means a delay in the company getting paid.

After this one, most companies will encourage their customers to get online billing which can't be good for CP.
The union will realize they are losing clout in this era this time around. The problem is unions aren't organizations built to be adaptive. I think this strike is doing the union more harm than good.

Did CP give a date for a full strike?
I'm expecting a package in about 2 weeks. It is coming from the US and usually takes a little while to clear Customs.

I may as well contribute......
I have a relative who has been a postal employee for ~25 years. Called him up for his impressions (his wife also works there). He figures that the Canada Post feast has ended, everyone knows it (Including the Union ....they aren't stupid), and now people will fight for every last crumb. His opinion is that we'll see more acrimony than ever before, as Canada Post withers.
Not a surprising opinion, but it was interesting to hear all the same.

Canada Post to cut delivery to three days a week in urban areas

I'm actually not as anti-union as some people on here (being the former VP of a local will do that) but this is ridiculous. Trying to fight churn is a losing battle.

This is good too:
Anna Beale, president of CUPW Local 710 in Calgary, was shocked by the move to reduce delivery days and staffing levels, and called it “a slap in the face to the Canadian public.”
“How dare they. This is almost like retaliation. This is bad-faith bargaining,” she said.
Wait . . . who is refusing to work/do their job again?

They need to settle this crap soon. I have been getting screwed over at work because no one is getting paid for vacation time or sick time. Seeing as how I am full time RLC I dont have my own walk and right now I am getting sent all over the place. I have been getting sent out to Surrey the last couple days and Surrey isn't part of the zone I work in, so I would normally never ever get sent there. Just thankful the mail has been light so i am still home at a decent time.

I've got it even worse. I'm a term and have been laid off. I'll get no work until a settlement or legislation. I'm going to Vancouver so I don't have to be temporary for 15 years.

Agreed! It's okay for the union to have it's rotating strike and screw the public but when CP retaliates it's bad faith bargaining? Give me a break!
It's a slap in the face to Canadians for the stupid union to use the public as a pawn in it's dispute with CP. And don't tell us the rotating stikes won't hurt the public. Just ask business owners and they'll tell the union to get stuffed!

Hang on a second. The union isn't refusing to work here. They have the legal right to strike. It's a big difference. If CP is unhappy with the rotating strike, they should lock the union out, force them to the table.

Yes they have the right to strike. Just don't tell the public what CP is doing is bad faith bargaining. Screwing with the public is not how you win support for your cause.
If the union was serious about forcing a deal there wouldn't be the rotating stikes. It's all about minimizing the loss of wages the employees would lose if it was a nation wide strike.

Are you serious it takes 15 years to become permanent there?
I thought 4 years was a long time.
But ya I guess it sucks for all the terms. I hear starting next week we are only working Mon Wed Fri now until a deal is reached.

Do Americans get more letter mail than Canadians? How can they justify 6 day mail delivery when I'm ok with 3.
