Last night I was unable to place Lava. Don't know if this was a temporary issue with my client or a problem on the server. Could someone else give it a try when you're online?
I had that same problem this morning. It would look like my bucket was empty, but the lava didn't place. Then when I tried to do anything else with the bucket the lava reappeared in it. Also, in the uhc server, we should probably turn off the whole private chests setting.
I've been playing on the new MindCrack public server. It holds 500 people, pretty alright so far. I've setup some rudimentary farms 470, -775 to get myself established. They are switching to a new protection method so I'm just stockpiling resources for now, waiting to start a real base. If anyone is interested in joining me out in that area we could start a community or something. I'm in the ocean near a jungle on one side.
Yeah finished my exams today so will be looking into it tonight. The lava thing is an easy fix, a setting designed to prevent burning down of lots f peoples work. I should be able to turn LWC off on Hardcore as well.
The big thing will be to figure out a way to get the random spawn idea working, right now I really am not sure how we will do that at all

ok, fixed the fire spread stuff (thoughts and prayers to the villager's houses) and lava should go down no problem.
Just removed LWC (chest protection) for the time being. If I can add it in again just on the default world, I will.
I have also figured out a way to have the spawns work correctly for the UHC world, but it is kind of a hack workaround so I will try some other options over the next few days. Related to this, the new default world is now 'test' so if for some reason you find yourself there, let me know the circumstances so I can fix that and the use "/warp world" to get yourself home.

The Following User Says Thank You to Rathji For This Useful Post:
I was on tonight to play around with Fraps and discovered the free version limits a video to 30s long. Hopefully I don't spawn in a 2x2 hole next to a Creeper and need more than 30s for my video
Fraps really kicked my frame rate in the junk, and I found the video sizes were huge - over 600MB for 30s of video! Doubtless the settings could be tweaked to preserve hard drive space but on the other hand I don't want to pony up the $37 for the license.
I went searching for alternatives and think I might have a good one called Gregion. Their home page is asian and unintelligable, but it can be downloaded here: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...ad-154814.html
So far it's easier on the fps and file sizes. It does seem a bit quirky - if I start Gregion and then Minecraft pressing the record hotkeys doesn't start the video. However if I start Minecraft first and then Gregion it works fine - I know it will work once I see the FPS overlay that Gregion adds. I guess the rule is Gregion will work on any existing window, but will not work on new windows.
The other quirk is probably not Gregion's fault. I run Minecraft in a window and Gregion records the video in whatever resolution the window happens to be. It results in very non-standard video resolution.
In any case I expect there will be other first-time gamecasters and hopefully that this free software will do the trick.

So, I made a test video using Dxtory, which is an alternative to Fraps. Its not any cheaper, but it does work well for me. Its available on the internet...
Anyway, here's this quick tour of the base I built in my first single player world I started when I got into the game last year. I stopped playing for quite a few months until I saw the Mindcrack deal, so forgive my fascination with random things added in the last several versions. Also, nothing make you realize how dorky you sound like uploading your voice to the internet.
Doing some more testing tonight of video/audio recording. I find that recorded videos have good microphone audio levels, but very little to no game sounds.
I suspect my problem is I went an purchased a Logitech G35 headset which plugs in via USB and therefore has it's own onboard sound card. Is there any way to blend microphone input with game sounds using this headset?
I'm not sure what the audio setup of the program you're using is, but with Flash Media Encoder, you set your audio input to "Stereo Mix" or something similar. What that does is grab all sound going in and out of your computer, so you get the direct sounds of the computer plus your mic. It works really well.

Thanks for the idea, but I think what I'm running into is a limitation of Windows XP. It cannot combine audio from two sources (ie: game sounds through the sound card and microphone sounds from the headset).
Unclear to me at this point if Windows 7 will fix this.
My castle project. I put this video together as a submission to BdoubleO100's build contest, but I tried to keep it general enough that I could use it to show off the build. It got a little long at almost 19 minutes, but to get it that short I had to leave a bunch of stuff out. Hope you like it.
I'm going to log into the server tomorrow in the morning to make sure everything's working okay on my end. I have a mic, so I'll join the chat and try to get a recording software up and running. This should be interesting . . .

That is pretty insane.

Should I create a Calgarypuck Ultra Hardcore thread separate from this thread? It'd be nice to have a separate one apart from the big Minecraft thread.

So I'm having some issues. I don't have the permissions in the server to warp to the world to test some stuff, and I can't get into the ventrilo server because of authentication errors. Not sure if there might be a password set or if I'm doing something wrong.
