^No ####, it's Russia and Saudi Arabia, not Germany and France. Relatively speaking it's actually been a decent enough match.

How much did Russia pay to play the worst team in the tournament in their first game?

The Saudis look totally overmatched, and oh yeah Russia is the worst ranked host in history. So yeah, that 48 team World Cup is already looking like a disaster since it means more Saudi Arabia's in the tournament.

That second goal was pretty sweet in all fairness.

Technically the worst team in the Tournament is Russia.

I’ve seen better defending in beer league games. Both defenders sliding was hilarious

Not sure how inclusion of more teams/nations is a disaster.
It's great for us casual fans of the sport, and really the only way to potentially generate a wider fan base, imo.

Really it's about getting China and India into the tournament. But it's a disaster in that the quality of matches in the early stage of the tournament will be even worse. Not sure how worse quality will help casuals. If anything a shrunken tournament would do that, since the quality would be better.

I actually doubt Russia paid anything at all.
It was more likely that they put a severed horse head into the beds of FIFA officials conducting the draw.

Lets not bring up 7-1....there was some atrocious defending there...
Relax. Have some fun. Its not like either of these teams are going to be real threats so at least enjoy some goals.

Severed Horse Heads is old hat for FIFA officials, you gotta step up your game when dealing with them. They've seen so much corruption that they're quite jaded.

Euro with 16 teams felt so exclusive. Like it was the creme de la creme of competitions, so I agree with your assessment.

it's the same stupid idea as the new 24 team Euros ... of course the quality of the product will be affected if you include more teams. Not that FIFA will care.

Like the NHL playoffs are watered down by letting more than half the teams into the post season.
