The celebration makes everyone who's not an Oiler fan love to hate Yakupov. Maybe that's a good thing, it brings some added anticipation for Saturday's game.
If I was an Oiler fan the only thing that would bother me somewhat is the fact that he disregarded his teammates to celebrate alone. Although I'm not overly surprised.

That couldn't have been a clearer instance of Goaltender Interference.
TSN showed it in slow motion about five times and continued to say "yes, it was goaltender interference".
Couldn't be a simpler call especially when watching it over a few times.
That was no goal and 100% the right call.
|
What are you talking about? They discussed on the TSN postgame panel, and seemed to agree that the process of calling it a goal first then meeting to discuss if there was goalie interference was correct. It was agreed that it was likely not the right call though as Ganger was directed into Quick, with his foot getting caught in Quik's pad and he was unable to pull it out. Quick actually made it harder for Gagner as he was tring to spin around to see where the puck was.

Yakupov:
"...I knew there was 10 seconds left and I was thinking, if we win the faceoff, just go to the net and wait for the puck. Probably a little lucky.”
Yakupov’s celebration was spontaneous. It’s not in his bag of tricks. He said it was the first time he’d done it.
“It just came to me. I didn’t understand what happened. I thought ‘what am I doing?’ ” he said.
“I didn’t hear anybody because the fans were crazy.” "
The Oilers just got a goal called back in the last minute of play. The emotions of the place was spontaneous and raucous like a roller coaster-it was deafening. Then suddenly Yakupov ties it with less than 5 seconds left and the place erupts like a playoff hockey atmosphere. Give me a break.
The 18 year old kid was on cloud 9 and acting on raw emotion and adenaline which was like the Rexall atmosphere. Isn't this what hockey is all about-fun and exciting? He is a passionate hockey player who plays with his heart on his sleeve.
I say relax your sphincter, you don't always have to walk around with a tight gazoo...

To be honest, would you really be this pissed if Baertschi tied the game up against the Ducks the other night and celebrated like this?
|
No, he did the BIG fist pump thing once when he stopped a shoot out attempt to get this first NHL win.....Kipper jokingly mocked him the next time he won a shoot out. I hope I am remembering that right. The BIG fist pump was once for sure.
He did much more subtle celebrations after that. I don't have a big problem with Yak's celebration, over the top but whatever, but there is no real comparison between his and Karlson's reactions.
I am not endorsing it in any way but he is going to get run over if he keeps it up.

Because a teenager broke the code.
I wonder if the people trashing this display of passion, are the ones who complain the Bouwmeester lacks emotion, and he should be traded.

I just looked at the 'celly' It was overboard and selfish in my mind. Bowing head at end to reflect on his own awesomeness was the clincher

I don't care about the celebration, hes a kid, he reacted like a kid would. I'm sure the fans loved it.
But once again as a result of this, the Oiler fellating in the media is getting out of hand.
And if I see the word "celly" again, i'm going to go kick a dog.......
But I'll draw the line at eating a steak, cause thats cruel...

I do too. To me, it would show they are people who love what they do, and not a bunch of professional athletes doing their job. Love it or hate it, it appears to be fun for the fans too--which at this juncture is probably good for the game.

I agree. If the zebras were calling everything by the book (ex. visor in a fight, delay of game by RNH not having his stick down during faceoff...) then why not call it a goaltender interference penalty if there was one by Gagner. It was clearly not, as shown on tv, when he was pushed into Quick, they both had their equipment tangled up. Why could they not review the goal on replay since it was allowed and there was no penalty called?
BTW, the double minor on Smid for being an (instigator and having a visor on in a fight) was a joke. Clearly, they dropped their gloves at the same time with Nolan a split second earlier... The inconsistent calls really put the crowd into a frenzy and that is something these refs should address. They are not the show.
