I wonder how Conroy plays it. He can tell everyone to make their final best offer and then pick. Or he could try and take the offers back and forth like an auction.

There's been snippets on the Amazon documentaries, but I'd love to see how a really big trade happens behind the scenes, like with the media strategy, the last minute squeezing of other GMs, hearing the GM call the player etc.

Foglino maybe? When he was traded to the Leafs, but I can't remember if he was playing mostly C back then.

I mean forgetting about the 0.5ppg but focusing on the 30+ wingers to return a 1st
Artemi Panarin
Patrick Kane
Rick Nash
Claude Giroux
Kyle Palmieri
Nick Foligno
That's pretty much the list, granted they were all UFAs. So kinda apples to oranges maybe?

Cool side note, if Coleman returns a first he would be the oldest winger to do so since....
Jarome Iginla and Jagr (same year)

28 and 33 are equal, after all.

Would this mean Whitecloud and Kadri are hanging around? With Huby out of the lineup and Coleman likely out of the door, there's limited NHL experience in the team to play out the final stretch. Personally I hope we lose as many games as possible, but the inmates can't run the asylum.

In a vacuum, he might not be worth a 1st, but it only takes one GM to overpay. Nick Foligno got a 1st. Paul Gaustad once got a 1st. Shane O'Brien once got a 1st.

I do find it interesting with what Dino said on Tuesday that Coleman isn't back with Backlund in practice number one.
If he's pretty much out the door on Saturday or Sunday they may be line filling and keeping Backlund with his go forward wingers.

So the NHL won't allow trades to be announced during the freeze to give the Olympics clear air, but talks are allowed between clubs. Can they officially file trades during the freeze?

Filing for a trade is making a trade.
Trades cannot officially be made until after 9:59 pm MT on Feb 22 when the trade freeze is lifted.

If it's been agreed to, you'd have to think it gets announced on the weekend as team X would want Coleman there as soon as possible with games starting mid week.

Assuming his ask has been met, I can't see Craig letting Coleman play another game and risk him getting injured.
We may have already seen his last game as a Flame.

If they offer pick #1 of the second-round, you hang up the phone, lol.

Glencross returned a 2nd and a 3rd, I could see Coleman returning similar.
