Yes there is that chance. I think some media maybe trying to create a Laine Vs Matthews to make the draft more exciting and click baitable, but it does feel like there is less and less of a gap between Matthews and Laine, and perhaps a gap growing between Laine and Puljularvi.

Matthews still will have the opportunity to respond at the World Championships.

Man,

Gaudreau- Monahan
Bennett- Matthews/Laine
Frolik- Backlund

Hamilton- Brodie

Sure would be fun to build around

Assuming if the positions stay the same, would you trade our 5th pick and Wideman to the Oilers for the 2nd? The dilemma is the Oilers still get a great pick and Wideman is sure to help the young guys so it "should" make them better than if they were to just get whoever they pick in #2 spot.

I was listening to the radio in edmonton and i heard that edmonton is going to bring a "lucky" object and if they win the draft they are going to reveal what it is but if they don't win they won't reveal it.

Dante is a very Calgary Flames-esque name.

I rate his name 8/10.

Oh my gosh I want the Flames to get Laine or Puljujarvi so bad. So bad that I don't want to read anything about him anymore unless Calgary wins a top 3 pick.

Eventually a couple of expansion teams will be added which will nestle the Oilers into 16th.

It's funny how huge the lotto can effect our team! I see the rebuild as complete if we draft top 3 and get a goalie. Could be a few more years of the rebuild if we drop to 7 or 8th..

The Flames say hell yeah and Oilers say hell no.

What about our 5th or 6th(which ever we get) pick and Sam Bennett

to Oilers for 2nd pick and Nail Yakupov.

A trade scenario with Boston:

Calgary gets:
Tuukka Rask($2million reatined by Boston)
Rights to Loui Eriksson
Alex Khokhlachev
Boston 1st round pick

Boston gets:
Calgary first round pick
Dennis Wideman
Joni Ortio
Dallas pick(whatever that pick is).

This is how I also feel, if don't get a top 3 pick this year, then you suck next year and get another top pick.

Laine is the shiny new thing, and has been getting a lot of press since Matthews' season in Switzerland ended. But there's a reason Matthews has been the consensus #1 pick of this draft for over a year. At every level he's played at he's been phenomenal.

That is ridiculous. I have lucky lotto numbers. If I win I will tell everyone what they were. If I lose I won't tell people the numbers.

Don't think Boston does that in a million years. Not sure why they give up all that considering the return. Sweeney does that and he gets run out of town imo.

Also it's partially that Laine has that shot which looks phenomenal in highlights. Plus he's legimately a great prospect. Some years I'm sure he'd be the consensus #1. Just not this year.
