I'm not sure why he was called up to be honest. We have quite a few players up and Ward saying that he isn't sure where he will find ice time for all of them. Perhaps it's just to have him in case or make him a Black Ace, but it doesn't make alot of sense to me. He wasn't drafted by the Flames, he's not one of our prospects so I can't see why we'd have him up or give him any playing time at this point.

David Eddy is one of our prospects.

He's on the last year of his entry level deal and is fighting for another contract. He was signed as a free agent, and he's been completely unexciting so far, but he's still our prospect.

Burke needs to see what this Eddy guy has for himself, he has a decision to make, and maybe he wants to have a look at his cattle before he sends them off to slau.... oh you know what I mean.

If he's injured then it might be to receive treatment from staff in the Flames organization rather than some ECHL medical staff

Really, I doubt that, he was operated on a while ago, there is something more here ….PMM knows more I'm sure ….or he's not doing his job or not telling us

But it's nonsensical. We all agree it's a bit weird that Eddy is being called up, but there are potentially lots of reasons. What is he hinting at?

Aren't the AHL roster rules fairly flexible? The ECHL is very strict in the playoffs and would probably require Eddy to be released for a functional body.

As far as I know, there is no salary cap or roster limit in the AHL. So yes, Eddy could have been called up just to remove him from the ECHL roster if they wanted a healthy player in his place.

I also agree with the suggestion that perhaps if he is injured significantly, they want him to see medical staff/rehab staff within the Flames organization rather then someone in Alaska. I'm not sure who the trainers in Alaska might be or their credentials and so I won't make any comments on their abilities or competencies, but I would think the Flames staff might have access and resources to provide a bit more of a personalized plan if Eddy has a complicated or stubborn injury.

Maybe his wife, if he has one is in Abbotsford. Being injured, not much sense in hanging around in Alaska.
