I wonder if Cole Beaudoin is easier to acquire than Hage. I also wonder if he's better than Hage.

Haven’t heard anything specifically.
This is why I’m hesitant about a trade to MTL. Flames want Hage or Zharovsky & MTL won’t trade them.
Conroy’s going to have to either do a heckauva job negotiating or there’s no deal there to be had unless price drops significantly.

Owen Beck and a 1st would be my guess of the maximum Montreal would be willing to offer

Slap Patrick Laine ontop of that and call it a deal.

I would easily add to Kadri to make a Hage trade happen.

I’m not convinced Kadri is that much better right now than Hage, let alone the huge upside, age and being on his ELC.
I don’t believe he’s for sale no matter what the Flames add.

Imagine if you will, the Habs trade Hage to CGY for Kadri. Hage then rides his full 4 years at Michigan and goes UFA. Then signs with the Habs.
He basically got a baked in NTC with his NCAA status.

Feb 25th the Olympic Break is over.
March 6th is the deadline.
That leaves only 10 days of trading.
I fully expect the trades to be advancing during this break and hopefully happening soon after.

Are GM's busy negotiating still during this break or is it more time spent on scouting?

Hage is ready to turn pro after this year. He's not going to forego two years of NHL money.
Having said that, once his NCAA season is over, the Habs can sign him and he can probably step right into that 3rd line center role, and maybe push Danault down to the 4th line.
He's not Kadri, but the Habs' window is just opening and they can afford to be patient.

Montreal under the new leadership seems to be patient with their rebuild efforts and sustaining their draft capital to have a continuous line of prospects coming up. There may be a day where they turn around and deal away a grade A prospect or a 1st rounder, but I don't think they're giving into the need to push their chips all in now. Their team is looking like it may need or season or two to further develop. That's just my view on things and how Montreal has operated since Bergevin's exit.

I would bet he is.
Another Utah prospect to look at is LD Simashev. Currently PPG in the AHL. Not sure if Utah would still hold onto him, but he's a guy I think could be a good top 4 acquisition.

Hage isn't happening. Period. And as Damage said, he could do the NCAA thing if her were traded. So move on.
But a deal is doable, so get on with it and figure something out that works. MTL has lots of usable assets

If Montreal won’t play ball we have to move on. And if it’s a summer deal, fine. Conny waited and got vgk to up their offer. If he has to do that with Kadri, so be it. Kadri might want to walk but we can’t give him away.
If he doesn’t want to go deep into the USA as others have mentioned, then it’s within Canada or one of the border states. I do wonder about LAK. The pieces they were offering for Ras are probably still there and they need someone between Panarin and Kempe. Maybe they can find someone younger/cheaper but LA is full of Canadians so might be an option. And I like Transplant’s idea of Buffalo. If Kadri can commute in from fort Erie, maybe there’s something there (they play the Canadian anthem at home for heavens sake). And if Seattle was taking a swing at panarin, that’s another border state that may appeal to Kadri, and they might want to make a splash.

What if I told you that there was a Flames prospect that has 10 more pts than Hage (albeit 2 more games played) while being drafted the year after.

If he played centre, we wouldn't be so worried about trading for one!
