Ha ha ha what any angry bunch some of you are. It's going to happen so like with Americans and their new president you are going to have to accept it and be open minded that things may turn out better than you expect.

If you want to spend a billion dollars on a project like that, don't skimp on trash like this. It looks awful. It will be awful. You have to divert Bow Trail if you want it there.
|
I hadn't really looked at this rendering before. If Bow Trail tunnels underneath the plaza type area, doesn't that work OK?

I am okay with it happening, i'm not okay with King's smug and arrogant attitude
I also don't want it to happen it's going to end up looking anything like the renders

Some of us aren't so eager to bend over for billionaires like you are. Just because you fall for the cliched new arena statements, doesn't really mean you should be a smug about it.
Think about what you're cheering for, getting duped.

While this may be all part of negotiating. I feel compelled to say F you. This team is amongst the most supported around the league and what do we have to show for it? They've won 5 playoff rounds in 27 years! Move to Seattle or whatever. Good luck getting that same support if you don't win ####.
We'd have another NHL team eventually. One that won't be asking for a free stadium for their football team.

Why am I getting duped? Seriously explain this? I would much rather my tax money go into this than one of Drew Farrell's pet projects.

Prediction time: An arena will be built north of the Stampede. The city will procure the land, and cover the financing of the ticket tax. The flames will kick in 200-250 million, the rest of the construction cost will be covered by the ticket tax user fee. McMahon will be renovated and the field house will be built st Foothills eventually.

Why? So the Flames owners have more revenue when you are now charged 20% more to see a Flames game in less seats so they could cram in more luxury boxes?
It's a business, if they want new infrastructure to increase revenue, pay for it themselves. Why are you so against tax money to citizen projects but totally fine for it to go to billionaires so they can squeeze another buck?
Paying tax money so they make more money right off the bat, and THEN charge us more is completely idiotic.

It's sad how people are willing to spend this much tax dollars so billionaires can make more money.
It is really disheartening.
I get if you are a season ticket holder, of course you would want this (aside from the ticket tax), but for everyone else, it seems really odd.

More like 400 of Drew Farrell's pet projects.

So basically, where this process should have been ten years ago.

Sure, but building CalgaryNext would be a lot cheaper than a time machine.

Lol
If the Flames want to go ask another city to increase the valuation of their hobby by >$500MM go nuts, and good luck with that!
And honestly if they get it that's great for them! So long!

Think of the positives. If we get a nice November like this again, the flames can get some golf time in on the roof.

If some other city wants to build them a rink and Calgary doesn't, then no it's not one of the most supported teams. It's part of a negotiation like you say, but the flames are not yours or any fans. If they get better "support" in terms of a stadium in Seattle or wherever then of course that's worth considering.
There's a strong sentiment that king is being smug and entitled, but the largest sense of entitlement I see is fans expecting them to operate in one of, and quickly becoming the worst rink in the league and to like it.
You can think a bunch of public funds for a stadium is bad, and that's fine, but if someone else is going to give them a rink then you just need to understand the possible consequences.

This will be interesting to watch, so far nobody has had much time for calgarynext, but if the flames seriously start sniffing around, it will truly flush out if people want to put money up for a rink.

The threat to leave Calgary is not credible.

Another lesson from the American election is that the commentariat and the establishment (in this case read Flames ownership and Calgary media) are out of touch with how average citizens are feeling, and may be in for a shock when a proposal they believe is a slam dunk ends up being rejected by those citizens.

I've never seen the books of a team, and i guess you have based on how confident you are, but a new rink and being able to make US dollars is quite material. Maybe that is on one of these 138 pages but that matters.
