Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else, but is this the guy who was rumoured as a buyout candidate for the Rags that never materialized? Capfriendly still has him on their roster.

All I see is her tweeting this 4 hours ago:
https://twitter.com/user/status/1038572261123321856

I believe she's referring to the Stampeder:

Yes, my mistake. I think she was referring to football. I was confused and assumed Smith was available.

Yes she was referring to Brandon Smith of the Stampeders.

She tweeted during the Stamps game. Stampeders are going through a lot of injuries right now.

icon57 PTO be or not PTO be: A breakdown of PTOs over the past three years

Quote:
Over the past three seasons, the Calgary Flames lead the league in total number of PTOs signed with 23. The majority of these came during the 2016-17 season where they signed 12 players to a PTO. The Flames went on to sign five of these players over the three years of analysis, including Tanner Glass, Nicklas Grossman, Matt Bartkowski in addition to the aforementioned McCollum and Versteeg.

I’ve heard some MSM around the Flames speculating that Anthony Peluso will be on the opening day roster, which suggests they’ve heard something from the team. If so, it would be baffling

That isn't trade speculation at all. Or a trade rumor. Peluso is signed.

Not sure why it's baffling, it's better for his to press-box rather than a young guy who makes the cut and needs to play. Makes sense, actually.

In my opinion, Kent Wilson is quite easily baffled.

It's not on the scatter plot.

I mean I guess I'll take Peluso over Hathaway, but that's it.

I wish the Flames would get over this complex they have about needing a dedicated face puncher who can't play though. They seem to be one of the only teams who still think that's a good use of roster space and they sign one of these guys every single year. Every time they end up bombing whatever line they're on and getting victimized by the matchup game. It's frustrating.

You don't have to pick between a total dud or prospects that need development time. Why are we so set on reserving these roles for veterans who we never actually want in our lineup just "to develop the kids"? Wouldn't guys like Jussi Jokinen, Chiasson, Shore, Joel Ward, etc. all be much better in that role?

I won't lie, I'm going to be grinning like an idiot when Prout & Peluso are out there against Kassian & Lucic.

To stay on topic, what are the odds Treliving has some giant awful trade news he's going to spring on people just as he boards the plane and escapes?

Not really.

If my 13th and 14th guys are Chiasson and Jokinen for instance, then when a top 12 gets hurt, it's these guys that are going in.

Peluso is never going to be confused with someone who can fill in on the 3rd line. He is there for the occasional game where they want an enforcer. But otherwise, when there is an injury, it's going to be someone from Stockton (i.e. Mangiapane or whatever) that gets inserted into the lineup.

A pugilist, as a 14th forward, gets in no one's way and takes no one's spot.

I know the game is changing for face punchers, but I think listening to Iggy talk about how much they had an impact and how much he appreciated them I think there is something to it. There is a niche role that sometimes you need to paratroop someone in. If that person is the 13th forward for 65-70 games when your roster is healthy than why not.

I don't know why Wilson is surprised. It isn't like Peluso making the roster mean he is ahead of the Foo's, Dube, etc. No different a situation than Bartowksi as a 7th Dman, or Forward Hamilton as 13th or 14th. Those guys will hardly see the ice. Any longer term solution would bring up someone from the AHL.

I’m fine with Peluso as the extra forward. I do miss the days when these kind of guys could impact the game. Seems like yesterday that McGrattan gave the crowd salute. It wasn’t felt on the scoreboard as much but there were times when guys like this could change the attitude on the bench.

The game has changed a lot now so Peluso will likely only be there to address the Lucia’s and other dirty goons. I won’t expect him to be a rallying point for the team in any games but you never know.

Really though.

I'd rather have Peluso munching popcorn in the pressbox over Foo/Eatbread/Klimchuk ect losing out on development time in the AHL.

looks more and more likely that Nylander won't be at Leafs training camp.

According to Dreger, Nylander is asking for $8mil per year.

At 8M per year asking price, he wouldn't be attending Flames camp either, so why bother trading for him?
