Would have to think the asking price for Askarov is 10th overall and then maybe something else. If Markstrom was on the board for the 10th overall and the Flames included something else like a 3rd and retention was included I guess the question is who do you want in net for the next season or two before you have to back up the brinks truck for Hughes and Nemec (along with pay Mercer and Holtz). You would really have to believe an Askarov/Allen combo (assuming Askarov is even available) can make you competitive over the next couple years.
Given they have missed the playoffs in 10 of the last 12 years and how elite their forwards look they may want a veteran goalie at 3 million and then use some of their remaining 17 million (for 7-8 players) to try to grab one more defensive dman like Tanev on a 3 year deal and make a run while they have some ELC contracts.
A backend of Hamilton, Tanev, Siegenthaler, Hughes, Nemec and Bahl with one other veteran 5/6 guy could be pretty good.

Would people be willing to trade Wolf for the 10th pick?
I would.

Absolutely not- we would then be in the same place as NJ. Wolf is potentially the most important asset the team has right now.
Actually strike that potentially, he is.

Niemi was the goalie for their 1st cup though. He split duties with Huet and even had less starts than Huet but took the reigns for the playoffs. Gone the next year.

That doesn't mean that individual teams have a consensus as to whom they would pick at every spot.
For all we know Calgary might love a certain player( in that 4-12 group) way more than the others. Or not.

Every trade proposal I see that has the Flames reducing the amount of picks they currently hold makes my skin crawl.

Yup, agree. I’m fine moving down in drafts but the total # of picks needs to be 7 or more every year. There’s a good player available at every pick in the draft.

That one is tough. I don't see much in the org behind Wolf but his size does scare me. Jersey fans would definitely say no though

Am I the only one who cant see NJD trading their 10th overall for Markstrom?
Is his trade value that high?

St Louis Blues radio speculating that their #16 pick is in play. Said the Blues want one of the top 6 D prospects. If all are gone, they would move back or even out of the first round for the right return

I think Vancouver pick would have to be involved. He's no spring chicken and there is no pressure of the current season.
If NJD is moving 10 for help in net they call Boston first 10/10 and everyday that ends with Y.

I don't think so. I think some fans will be disappointed by the return as expectations are too high IMO. I think they will get good B prospect and 2nd round pick or later type of return. He won't be the only starting pedigree goaltender available this summer.

I think most people here can't see it as well.
Their offer for Markstrom would start with a 2025 protected first round pick.

Zero chance. Has a goalie ever in the history of the nhl ever gotten a 10th overall pick? So yeah I agree no way that happens unless Calgary adds a rasmus andersson to the trade or someone similiar.
That's the angle I would go for, markstom and rasmus for 10th overall, roster player to make salary work and a meh prospect.

Schneider for 9th overall.
Edit: Varlomov went for 11th the year before
