I saw Dube at pat and beddie one night, 3/4 years ago and he looked like an arrogant azz.

Canada has one of the broadest jurisdictions for appeals by the state in criminal matters.
It strikes me that the exclusion of that evidence is pretty iffy. I mean, they leaned on them. But they would have had access to counsel as well. And they weren’t told to lie.

Ya I'm curious about this. I could see it a bit more for witness statements, as one might argue that they were compelled to incriminate their teammates to cover their own ass. But that doesn't make as much sense for the accused - at least in reference to their own actions

Snowflake. Check.

Internet Warrior. Check.

I have been living in decent, civil society. Black and blue is not the standard. When a hockey player said he was hitting her so hard that it looked like it really hurt, that would seem to be over the line of acceptable hitting of a woman.

When he testified that she was WEEPING that is also an indicator that, even if she did want it at first, that it was no longer what she wanted.

Why is expressing concern about another human being worthy of your derision? I would love to hear the standards by which you live your life.

Actually, I really don't. GTFO

When randoms stick up for rich famous people for doing abhorrent things, I can’t help but just assume it’s because they have done the same. I have no idea why you’d jump in otherwise.

It's going to be a real uphill battle for the defense to challenge those texts from Howden. They seem to be playing up how in informal chat, people have the tendency to exaggerate or make thing seem more dramatic. Which is true for a lot of people... everything is either the craziest thing that happened, or the lamest. Howden won't come right out and say that he was exaggerating anything, but rather that he can't actually recall how he really felt at the time. If I was the judge, I'd probably have to take them at face value at this point.

So you have a few witnesses with the same version and one with a different version at the time. But with the possibility of the other four coordinating their stories, it make it a little weaker. Reasonable doubt could be slipping.

I don't think Howden is the final player witness either and if the prosecution wanted to end Crown's case with a mic drop, I would bet something bigger is coming up.

Has there been a ruling as to whether he can be challenged with those texts yet (the hostile witness thing)? Until he can, those texts are not in evidence and the judge will have to diverce them from his consideration of the facts.

Apparently not. The judge is going to rule tomorrow on it.

No Wonder our justice system is so slow. I have never really followed a trial before, but it feels like they are always on a break for some reason or another. I get not everything that is happening is typed in the CBC or London press updates, but every start, break, lunch break end is recorded. It really seems like it is about 4-5hours at most per day.

Today start at 11 EST
about 12:30EST take a break
back in for about 20 Min then take Lunch for an hour and a bit till 2:15 EST
3PM EST adjourn for the day

I think the longest day so far was 10am till about 4:30 EST with 2 30ish minute breaks and an hour lunch.

^^ Trials can’t run 9-5 for many reasons.

AI Overview

Court trials typically don't run 8 hours per day due to a variety of factors, including the complexities of legal proceedings, the need for breaks, and the potential impact on participants. Trials often involve extended periods of testimony, cross-examination, and deliberation, making a full day of continuous proceedings difficult to manage.

I don't think you appreciate how much work (both on the record and off the record) goes into a day of trial or hearing.

I don’t understand why it would be hard to tell your dad about being in a room where consensual things were happening and you were not involved. Probably just “tell the truth” as the saying goes to your dad and it would be fine.

Yeah I bet the judge does dick all in that time outside the courtroom too…….. the lawyers too.

The breaks are recorded because that’s when the publicly available conversations and information cease.
