I don't know NF, the Djoker - Medvedev Aussie Open final wasn't very interesting. Hurkacz can bomb the serve, I think Fed will have has hands full with the young guy from Poland.
Fair enough I hope your right. I just want to see interesting matches for Djokovic and Federer, see them tested before the final. I felt the same way with Rublev and Fucsovics yesterday. Rublev hasn't played Djokovic before and I think that would be an interesting match up, while Djokovic vs Fucsovics we all know how it will go. Guess I got to rely on the Canadians to really test the GOATs.
I mean if you're relying on LostGen players to push GeriatricGen then I don't know what to say. They've proven time and again they can't do it. Medvedev is particular looks post-apex. I mean yeah he's going to reach #1 in the future and win a major or a few, but that's by default because someone from LostGen is going to have to do it. But I think his peak was that US Open run, maybe he needs to embrace is inner heel and make the crowd hate him, it did him wonders in New York.

Well, the women's matches today have been pretty disappointing to be honest. Not one match has gone to three sets and the last one (Barty vs. Tomljanović) will likely follow suit with Barty advancing.

So true. Even if Medvedev won, he wouldn't be the favorite against Federer. Which is crazy when you consider it would have been a 25 year old #2 player in the world vs a 39 year old coming off double knee surgery.
I like Medvedev alot, but as DP said his final against Djokovic in Australia was so disappointing. Even his final at the US Open only got interesting because Nadal tightened up otherwise it would have been straight sets.
I would be so excited to see a Shapo vs Djokovic and Federer vs Felix semis because I don't think they would capitulate like so many of their generation.

this is the semis setup I would live for, imagine what the odds would have been at the start of the tournament for this to happen. hell I'm just happy to not watch them forced to play each other somewhere in the first 3 rounds.
only way for this to really happen though is if both Karen and Olive Oil don't quite have their best days.

While I'd love to see those matches I have little doubt that Shapo would actually capitulate. You can wear him down, and wearing opponents down is what Djokovic does best. I suspect that even if he plays well to start he'd fold eventually. Still has potential to be a good watch.
The Felix Roger rematch would be interesting, because we know from Halle if Felix plays well and Roger is off, Felix wins. So he'll have some confidence. But Roger will no doubt make adjustments and is already in way better form than he was at the beginning of last week. So yeah, let's hope that one happens.

I think it will take a monster effort from Felix to get by Berrettini in all honesty, he's flying under the radar a little bit in my opinion, but he's probably the 3rd best player in 2021 (after Djoker and Rublev).
I agree. Felix is a big underdog against Berrettini, while Denis has to be favored against Kachanov. But if they do both get through it becomes the opposite - Denis a massive underdog, Felix... less so.

I feel like Berretini can be exploited with his poor backhand. Felix needs to direct everything he can there, because his forehead is lethal, but his backhand is a glaring weakness. They only played once before which Berretini won BUT it was a final so doesn't count
can't remember the last time I was super invested in the outcome of every single QF match. once the Canadian women start joining into the deep runs as well, every major is going to be must watch TV coast to coast.

I'm a guess Fernando Verdasco and Nadal in the 2009 AO because that's the one match I actually remember. But there have probably been Americans who have done it since then? Maybe?

This was a 5 set semifinal that Rafa just barely pulled out. Everyone thought he wouldn’t have enough in the tank for the final, but he ended up breaking Roger’s newly wonky back and making him cry during trophies.

That was only the semi finals, he still had to beat Fed in the finals.
