Breaking: Law enforcement sources tell @CNN, 16 people are dead and between 50-60 are injured in what appears to be an ongoing active shooter situation in Maine.

Good lord. This is a big one. Usually pretty much numb to these, but 22 so far is an insane number of lives taken.

At what point do we issue our thoughts and prayers?

Lewiston is like the size of Sydney, NS

That's insane. Our community still feels the effect of a mass shooting of 4 (3 dead, 1 severely injured) in 1992, let alone 22 dead and 50-60 injured.

Fortunately, politicans will give "thoughts and prayers" then protect the right to own and carry an AR-15, and all will be better.

50-60 wounded so far as well. It's a big one, especially for a city of only 37,000 people. That would be like if something like that happened in Moose Jaw.

The shooter has been identified, apparently still on the loose. Ex-military.

Feels like the give a #### threshold for a US Ameica shooting is right around 20 dead, so this definitely rates.

This is a tragedy, I hope the suspect is found quickly and with no more bloodshed. Why anybody feels the need to own a gun, especially like this one, is beyond me.

The most skeptical part of my brain thought: "At least it was in Maine so the shooter was likely a White guy so we can skip the BS racist rhetoric."

Thats how jaded I've become to US shootings.

I mean...FFS...this is a SEQUEL thread! This is 'Volume 2.'

Where is Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell? We need the Minority Report 'Pre Crime Division.'

I've already seen people on Twitter blaming Hamas for this shooting. Yes, really.

Honestly, its depressing that most of us just accept these as normal unless the body count is close or over double digits.

Not much to say...feel bad for people affected, but that Pandora's Box isn't ever going to be closed in the USA...

its a death spiral, literally, when it comes to trying to pass reasonable gun control

Its not our fault. America normalized it.

You cant be reasonable expected to be, what, emotionally devastated? Not when it happens this often?

McDonald's McFlurry machines dont break down as often as America has a mass shooting event.

absolutely... doesn't make it less depressing though...hearing about these shootings time and again has normalized it for us.

Mass shootings should never be normal, but they have become commonplace...
