GG's record is inflated because of the Flames dominance in 3 on 3, something they carried over from Hartley.
Imagine if we had a coach who could be 5-10 games above .500 at the actual game of hockey, and then we layered our OT dominance on top of that.
I've never seen a coach who completely ignores the emotional or mental state of his players in a game, and that is so ignorant of momentum shifts. Good coaches can see these things and call timeouts to refocus their team. GG fails spectacularly at this. Combined with bad special teams, a mediocre regulation record and downright bizarre player usage at times I really wonder what he is good at.
To me his tacical prowess with X's and O's is a complete fallacy, and the only time his team's have success is when their goalie is incredibly hot.

Aren't they around .500 or sub .500 in regulation under this coach? The 3 on 3 and shootout victories kind of mask that this team really hasn't got it done in regulation.

Sutter is the guy I have in mind if they want to do something now. Tippet probably would be the guy due to past relationships but Darryl is the guy I think can get this team the furthest this year.
I think they wait until the summer as well which makes the most long term sense. AV or Quenville would be ideal

I count OT loses as loses. They added a legit #1 goalie and a top 4 defensemen in the off-season and still are playing mediocre hockey. The credibility is if Treliving didn't hire him he either would be working in the AHL or as an assistant somewhere around the NHL.

D.Sutter live from Vulcan, AB where he's currently milking his cows reading the paper outlining the dumpster fire of a system in Cgy.

I am a life long Chargers fans so I know a little something about losing if anyone has any doubt about that. That team taught me with great certainty that there is absolute value in the theory that "a team takes on the identity of the coach."
They went from a physical, hard nosed team that played great defense under the tutelage of Marty Schottenheimer to a soft, mentally weak group of under achievers when Marty was replaced by Norv Turner.
Marty was a hell fire and brimstone, emotional leader and Norv was a really nice guy that had a great mind for football. Norv will always succeed as an assistant but he will never lead.
Gulutzan has a great hockey mind and seems to be a helluva nice guy but I don't think he's ever gonna be the guy that is able to drag 20 guys into battle with him.

My intention was to reference how he behaves in game. He talks to the players less than any coach in recent memory, as demonstrated clearly last night where their GG coached continuously and our GG did not.
There was an incredibly obvious need for a time out last night after that strange play deflated the Flames. Instead of looking at his players to see what was going on he stared more at he replay monitor to presumably break down the X angle O's of what happened.. The announcers were talking about how phased the players we're, and they are in the rafters.
The guy is a dud of a coach. You can disect what went wrong on video for hours after the game. In the game, let your war room tell you if it's off side and focus on your players.

I agree. He has shown an inability to understand the psychological part of the game, how to manage and help his players from that side of things.

To refer back to something TheScorpion said about not being on the 'Fire Gulutzan Train, but I'm driving to the station.'
I'm on the train and the conductor is taking tickets.

Our coach is actively costing us points.
Any idiot with a whiteboard can draw Xs and Os, NHL coaches have to adapt and modify their strategies to get the best out of their own group and to try and get an advantage over their opponents.
Except Gully?
Glen Gulutzan is screwing up the basics.

Would it not be a hell of a spark if you could get a guy like Gelinas to coach for the remainder of the season before assessing options in the off season? A short term spark from a guy who knows what it takes and is almost like one of the boys but on a very senior level. It could also help with a more honest put back to upper management on what the room is like and what sort of coach is needed moving forward.

They were a terrible pass away from beating the best team in the west. I wouldnt make big changes other than put Mangiapane in the lineup over Hathaway
