My mom can't go out for Mother's Day this year, any recommendations for places that do a Mother's Day brunch but that you can pick up for like 7 people? I know we've done that for Christmas or Thanksgiving before.

Or I guess we could just order from the usual suspects for takeout.

Might be too late but see if you get can get someone to cook in your house, or alternatively bring catered food.

What about whipping something up? Even if cooking isn't a strong suit, making a tasty breakfast/brunch isn't the hardest thing. I am sure some youtube videos can be of assistance.

I am sure Mama Bear would appreciate it as well, the effort is always worth it. Take out will probably cost a fortune and brunch like items just don't travel as well.

I do have fond memories of a couple buffets in the NE when I was growing up. There was one in the Safeway parking lot at 36 ST and 32 Ave which was probably my favorite. There was one beside Coop in the strip mall beside Village Square which I remember having really good dessert and ice cream. Also the Pizza Hut buffet was awesome for the sundae bar.

I don't get it either. I used to enjoy buffet and AYCE places when I was younger but they've lost their lustre, especially after COVID. I'm not lining up for hours for any meal, especially warmed-over bacterial cultures.

My dad used to take us once a month as a splurge when we were kids. Sad when it closed down.

I’m looking for a good Asian restaurant to go to as a family this weekend.

I can’t trust Google reviews anymore.

Not looking for Vietnamese or conventional Chinese as we have a great ones already. .

Any local favourites worth a drive across the city?

Finally tried Class Clown. Beef tasted similar to Smashburger, which I liked. Burger construction was good, toppings generous. Fries were kinda meh but decent enough. Didn’t try the fancy fries though. Overall recommend. For $20 burger, fries, pop it seemed like fair value.

Ryuko is great food, but each of the 3 times I've been there the service is just abysmal. 30minutes wait just to get your drink / have them come back to take your food order, then only 3/4 of the orders coming out together and the last one 20minutes late kind of stuff.

So, maybe just do takeout?

Hmm complete opposite to the experiences I have had there (at the McLeod trail location)

Which location for you?

The one at Canyon Meadows, yeah.

Like I said the food's delicious so I kinda gave them a pass anyway.

Icon - that sucks that your service was bad... I've been there three times (at the Canyon Meadows location) and it's been nothing but top-notch. I guess everyone has their own experiences there. One thing I guess we can agree on is the quality of food!

I had a sandwich on a freshly toasted baguette from The Stoop in Renfrew. Was one of the best sandwiches I have had in years, it was the daily special so It didn't have a name, if you haven't tried it out just yet I highly recommend it.

Tre Vietnamese on 8th Street around 14th Ave. So good. 100% gluten free (you wouldn't know it, trust me) and a $12.95 lunch special that can't be beat. It's our new go-to!
