I can't believe Conroy didn't trade everyone away on February 4th. What was he thinking?

I had a daughter at the end of last year.
…I’m tired.
What’s uh…what’s new with you? So, big Stajan fan? That’s cool.
How’s everyone doing?

Conroy will be offered a 2nd for Kadri or Coleman and refuse in order to preserve his reputation.

Anyone else anxious that Coleman isn’t even practicing with the team yet?
Not sure anyone will be willing to pony up for him without ensuring he is in game shape.

He was practicing last week with a yellow no-contact jersey on.

I feel like Kadri to the Kings makes a lot of sense. Acquiring Panarin they are clearly looking to take a short term run.
To LA
Kadri ($2MM retained)
To CGY
2026 1st
2026 2nd from Columbus
Kuzmenko
Then send Kuzmenko out at the deadline.

Don't worry, there's plenty of hateful stuff going on in the mcKenna thread!

Last I read, they like Kuzmo out there in LA.
I know this is crazy, and I don't think we could make up the value, but I wonder if they are tired enough of Byfield (as has been lightly rumored) to trade him.
It would be like Kadri retained, Mews, Vegas 1st for Byfield or something.

A 1st, a 2nd, and a decent roster player is actually a pretty good return for a rental defenceman. A 1st, a 3rd, and a minor-leaguer for the same type of player isn't terrible. A 3rd plus a prospect who's showing regression is an awful return for a top-line forward with an extension.

It's a good example of Conroy being better in his role than Drury is in his. Though the situations aren't exactly the same, they're very similar.

I also think it makes sense. Who in LA takes the biggest hit with the addition of Panarin? Kuzmenko is for sure 1 and he has no trade protection.
Fiala, Kempe and Kuzmenko are their top 3 forwards in PP ice. Kopitar is behind Byfield, but he missed a bunch of games. With Panarin in and Kopitar back from injury I see Fiala, Kempe, Kopitar and Panarin as the forwards on the 1st unit. Kuzmenko to the 2nd unit isn't going to work IMO and his contract will have negative value in the lessor role.
Kadri in and Kopitar can move to the 2nd unit and focus on more of a checking role late in his career.

The problem is position. Kopitar is still good, but he should not be playing 20 mins a night in the playoffs. Great on face offs and defensively, but they can rely on him to score like he used too.
Fiala and Kempe are staying. Kuzmenko is going to lose PP1.

Maybe Kuz gets bumped, but I could actually see him fitting on a line well with Panarin.

Kuzmenko has 23 points this year...13 on the PP.
5 on 5 he just doesn't provide enough and $4.6 mil for PP2 playing time isn't going to work. Panarin is Kuzmenko's replacement and he is significantly better at what they do.
They need a center. Helenius and Turcotte are both good depth, but they are both young. Byfield just hasn't stepped up and Kopitar is too old. They might trade Byfield, but that can wait until summer. They need another center. For cap reasons, Kuzmenko is odd man out.
