19-yr old, 6'2 winger, 26g, 45a, 71p, +9 in 59 games this season.
3 assists in 6 playoff games.
Calgary boy to boot, kind of a no-brainer.
His stats don't excite me much. Low PIMs as well so he doesn't appear to have much of a physical game either. If the Flames could sign him to a one year deal I assume they would. Committing to 3 years is a bit risky if you believe the odds of him becoming an NHLer is very low.
If he isn't signed, does he re-enter the draft? I assumed that is the case. If that does happen I doubt he would be drafted. If he's not drafted I believe he signs a one year AHL-only deal with someone, maybe even the Heat. I think he will have to prove himself in the AHL before getting an NHL deal.
Of course tomorrow he could sign a 3 year entry level deal making me look bad.

Looks like there's a chance Wotherspoon might be shut down for the remainder of the season. Not sure what the injury is yet. #Flames
Breen has been recalled from Abbotsford. But bigger issue might be whether we get Wotherspoon back for the playoff run. First Granlund, now Wotherspoon.

At one point Hartley was saying that the Flames might get Granlund back for a couple games toward the end of the season, so all hope is not lost there.

Sucks about Wotherspoon's injury if it's true. I thought he is doing very well with the Flames until Ladislav Smid's injury.
As far as Breen is concerned, I am not impressed with what he shows or lackof so far on all his callups. He seems to be slow to react and out of positions a lot. I hope he learned from those mistakes already and play better. The guy is big and he should use his size to his advantage.

Points don't really mean a whole heck of a lot, tons of players put up points in junior and aren't legit NHL prospects.
Whether they sign him will be based on if he's improved the parts of his game that were weaknesses. I haven't seen him so I have no idea if he's dramatically improved in the past couple years. Based on him being a 7th rounder he likely had quite a few things he had to work on. I've only seen him a few times at development camps and the like but he never stood out to me. No point wasting a contract on him if our scouts don't think he has NHL potential at this point. So no, it isn't a no-brainer at all.
Wotherspoon to undergo shoulder surgery. Out long term.
As per Brandon Astle:
Quote:
@brandon_astle: Tough news as Tyler Wotherspoon is shutdown the rest of the year as he will undergo shoulder surgery. Breen & Cundari have been recalled.

Does anybody know how he got injured and what type of injury? I only saw the last 7 minutes of the game I believe and I think I saw him and Billins playing.

It didn't happen last night, it was two or three games ago but I can't recall which one. I remember the hit but I can't remember which game it was.
They said on the FAN today that they didn't want to dress him last night but couldn't get a recall in time.

Coda seems to do a lot of things well, but there isn't any standout qualities with him. All of his abilities seem to be slightly below average, but there is nothing terrible about him.
If he signs, he'll easily be a useful depth guy on Abby, which would help to replace guys like David Eddy. Whether he proceeds beyond being AHL depth is really up to him and how he progresses.
I can see why you would or wouldn't sign him as he hasn't done anything to show he's terrible, but he also hasn't really stood out much. One of those situations where either choice is fine. You're either getting a place holder or you're getting the availability to find a different likely placeholder.

IMO to soon to go up, pushed to hard, played to much, no consideration given to an all incurred injury. LT injuries are the result of pushing young players to play beyond where they are. Hopefully he's able to recover and that theres no long term effects. So sad
Looks like the Heat caught up with posting their "weekly" video's. Some really good player profiles and rapid fire's this time around. Brady Lamb is an interesting character.
New Wednesday's with Ward - Coach Ward talks about all the new kids coming in:

Right away you could see,” Martin was saying the other day during a stopover in Seattle after an 11-day, seven-game road trip on the East Coast Hockey League circuit with the Flames’ affiliate. “There was a bone growing off the side of my femur. I had cracked it right off.
“I actually Tweeted nine centimetres but it was actually nine inches.”
A pretty shocking discovery, to say the least.
The medical staff told Martin, a native of Winnipeg, that it had been growing undetected since he was a child — something that started as a small abscess growth when he was eight-years old.
Immediately, he was operated on Feb. 4 at a hospital in Anchorage to remove the benign bone growth.
“Doctors said I shouldn’t have been able to make it through high school sports without it bothering me,” said the 22-year-old who toiled for four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos and the Kootenay Ice. “But it never bothered me before. Once they took it out, it was fine. But once I saw the pictures of them taking it out, that kind of freaked me out because the incision in my leg is huge.
