I don’t think Flames 1st and Kadri get you Misa let alone SJ including their pick
Not with the uncertainty of where the Flames pick ends up (and SJ really has zero fit for Kadri anyways )

The Habs certainly have some bad contracts the Flames could take back in a Kadri deal, to make the money work and then not need retention. That's provided these players modified NTCs aren't set up to block a trade to the Flames.
Laine is the most obvious one.
Anderson and Gallagher also have awful contracts for what they now bring.

Honestly if I'm San Jose I'd probably have done that if I was locked into a playoff position.
Misa isn't really a sure thing and of all the names that received criticism at the WJC his should be up there.
I might trade Misa for a shot at Stenberg, Verhoeff or McKenna at this point, and lots of other strong dmen in the top 10 which is their biggest need.
Misa + 17-22 OV for Kadri + Top 5 pick
I'd probably do that, McKenna and Stenberg are better prospects than Misa, at worst even, and if you don't get one of them then you're filling a position of need on defense.

Conroy should be fired on the spot if he is thinking of trading our first, doesn’t matter who he trades it for outside of say Bedard or Cellibrini.
Draft your own guy, don’t trade for someone else’s guy.

Misa is still 18, on a 40 point pace based on a 82 games, getting 11 minutes per night and little PP time.
He's coming on just fine.
SJ is not trading him for Kadri LOL.
For a dman? Maybe. But if they want to do that, they'll trade him for a dman, not for a draft pick that might become a dman. They would want to know who that dman is.

If I was Conroy and the Flames end up drafting 3rd OV, Stenberg and McKenna are off the board, and San Jose calls to offer Misa for 3rd overall I'd do it then.
They get the big dman they want and need in Verhoeff
You get the top line C you want in Misa, with the added benefit of great chemistry with Parekh

Agree for the most part.
It likely depends on how high they would be on Verhoeff or the other dmen on the top 5.
I personally think Schaefer is who the Sharks wanted last year and wouldn't be surprised if they really covet Verhoeff.
To me it's not trading him for Kadri at all though.
It's trading Misa for a top 5 pick, and trading a 16-20 pick for Kadri

Yup.
On the draft floor, I'd be happy to see that play out if we're in that spot.
I'd honestly probably make the trade if McKenna is gone. I'd give up Stenberg for Misa, probably.
Not before being on the draft floor though.

Maybe a deal around Laine, Anderson & Hage for Kadri + (with retained $%),
Really weaponize that cap space.

I wonder if Los Angeles would give up Liam Greentree? Nice power forward.

Misa plays the more important position though.
Maybe Stenberg or McKenna turn out better, but it is a complete unknown at this point. I just don't think if would make sense to trade an amazing prospect for a few years of Kadri. Especially because their window is just beginning, and they have years and years to compete.

Not surprised. It’s one thing for veterans to say they want to stay for rebuild when the team is somewhat competitive like last year . It’s a whole different scene when the losses really start to mount and you realize this is not just going to be a 1 year thing. Won’t be surprised if Weeger changes tune in off season . Hell maybe even backlund will have a change of heart.

Unless he can play center, I'm not interested. Plenty of good winger prospects already in the organization. We need centers in the worst way.

The pick has never been the priority. The priority has always been to get a current roster player back to replace the outgoing player. The pick has just been included in the deal.

Lol, you guys engage the obtuse hot takes, but I make a reasonable trade question, and I'm ignored like Abe Simpson at the dinner table.

I don’t see Montreal going after Kadri after they got Danault especially if the cost is Hage.
