I have no problem putting Price in the tier by himself above Markstrom and Helleybuck. He had an incredible stretch of play that ended 3 years ago though, and he would be in that tier because of what he has done in the distant past. Goaltending is about how you've done over the long haul though, and he still gets credit for that and could easily return to that level for a year or two before he declines due to age.

But I would put them so close in current ability as to say that whichever of the 3 has the best year in 2021 will be the clubhouse leader in Canadian team goalie rankings for the 21/22 season.

Also E=NG and where do their goalies fit into the rankings anyhow? 10th and 17th? There has got to be a handful of third string goalies better than Mike Smith right now!

I think he was on pace for 16 in his last season here.

So yeah, super realistic. As always.

Didn't know a year of Liiga transformed fringe players into stars. We should send all our prospects over there!

Its not debatable that NHL GMs voted Markstrom #4 for the Vezina last season

How many Oiler media guys get to vote? There's your answer.

I assume you already know the answer, but here's the breakdown: https://www.hockey-reference.com/awa...ina_stats_link

Since the Vezina is voted on by the GMs, there are much fewer players receiving a vote than the other awards. Also, they only get 3 votes rather than the 5 that the other awards get.

5 of the 30 NHL GMs who voted this year considered Markstrom to be one of the 3 best goalies in the league (16.7%).

Price did not receive a single vote. Obviously, neither did Smith or Kostinem.

Your friend is dumb, I mean like eating paint chips for breakfast dumb. He had some nice points in a league that is inferior to the AHL, is played on large ice, and isn't anywhere near the NHL. At the same time the same old complaints sprung up about him. Defensively lazy and poor, IQ of a brick. He's going to be put on the McDavid line and its going to be the worst defensive line in hockey, and JP will get very few points and eventually carve out a nice little career in a low tier Japanese league somewhere where he gets paid in Pizza money.

Second, why is he your friend, with comments like that he should be relegated to pack mule status hauling your groceries to your house and taking out your garbage and such.

This is typical of Oiler fans. It comes down to ice time and pp time. Odds are he won't get first pp mins so more likely if he gets the chance to play on the first line 5 on 5 he will put up numbers like kassian did. Good numbers for a guy with no pp points but not 60. If he does get 60 I expect kassian and Yamamoto will fall off a cliff in production. I just can't see jp producing on his own line.

Any Oiler could mooch off McDavid and leon sure but not all of them will.

I’m legit worried that with playing the Oilers 10 times this year and how heated the rivalry can get, that Kassian is going to do something very stupid to one of our players. He already kicked a guy with his skate on, and that developed in the heat of the moment with no bad blood.

You should probably consider taking advantage of this prime opportunity and making a bet.

Simple, you tell him that if he gets out of control, your going to target the Conna and the Draisaitl during those 10 games.

The best way to make Kassian worthless is to challenge him face to face, the guys a gutless coward.

How is Mike Smith still an NHL goaltender? After his epic failure 11.31 GAA .783 SV% in the play in series I just assumed he would have left quietly into retirement. Embarrassing for the Oilers they had no better goalie options.

I think this will prove to be their downfall this season and goaltending will cost them dearly and result in yet another playoff miss

In Karpat Puljujarvi scored 7 goals 5 assists in 16 games "leading his team in goals" and was about 23-24th in Karpat League scoring. At the same time in the same league Jusso Valimaki was the leagues most dominant defensemen and racked up 19 pts in 19 games for 6th in Karpat League scoring.

If Puljujarvi is "reformed" and his stats "prove it" then whats that make Valimaki!!! Based on Oiler fan thinking then Valimaki is the next Bobby Orr no less.

Didn't see any for him, but Draisaitl actually got a vote for the Selke...the SELKE!! lol.

You obviously can't take anything away from the guy offensively, but someone up there actually thought he was the BEST defensive forward of the year?! Ok.
