Did you like Groundhog Day but instead of a straight comedy you wished it had more Frank Grillo, ridiculously over the top violent action, and bit roles by Mel Gibson and Will Sasso? You did? Well then I hope you’re wearing your boner pants because Boss Level was made just for you.
It wasn’t terrible. Decent Sunday afternoon mindless fare to kill 90 some odd minutes.
I thought Boss Level was great.
I laughed a lot. Really enjoyed it so did momma.
Definitely recommend if you are looking for mindless shoot-em-up nonsense flick.
Aliens is a great action movie but for building suspense Alien is way better.
It's one of the few franchises where the sequel is a distinctly different genre than the original. As much as Aliens is a really well-done action film, it just feels like an entirely different movie in the same universe as the original, as opposed to a true sequel.

Watched Monsters University for the first time with my kids. I got a kick out of Charlie Day's monster basically being a Disneyfied version of Charlie from IASIP
SIAP obviously Fincher's Seven is probably something that isn't 'under rated', but i think The Game was really great as well. Michael Douglass, Sean Penn, Debrah Unger a number of well known character actors as well
worth checking out if you haven't seen it before

A police officer faces a personal meltdown following a divorce and the death of his mother.
Written/Directed/Performed by Jim Cummings. I thought it was really great. A black comedy / drama of sorts that's difficult to gauge at any point because of the delivery and subject matter.
From a review I saw: "You never completely know if it is sadness or laughter they were looking for and that's all credit to the excellent acting of Jim Cummings. "
Just watched the Mill and the Cross on MUBI. There's a thread about Catholics which is quite a propos. Depicts an artists vision of part of the Spanish Inquisition.
Really well filmed and paced!

I spent 12 years working in that company. It was a great job that gave me a lot of opportunities to move up. It still hurts knowing that not only is that company no longer around, but the entire industry is kaput.
I'll definitely be interested to see what that's all about.
Side note. I actually stopped in that store on my way through Oregon years ago. It's bizarre to me that it's the last one.

I enjoyed it, easily could have been half as long. the irony of watching it on Netflix was not lost on me. For about 10 seconds they make a good case that the housing crash of '08 and not Netflix was the nail in the coffin, but they quickly move on, and remember it's a movie about nothing.
Location: A simple man leading a complicated life....

Watched another Micheal Douglas classic - "Star Chamber"
Frustrated with a legal system gone haywire, a secret society of judges hires hitmen to snuff out criminals who escape courtroom justice - but one young judge questions the ethics of their vigilante system.

I just finished watching a Richard Gere classic called "Primal Fear" It's about a trial where an altar boy is accused of murdering a Chicago Archbishop.
Just watched this last night. So much nostalgia! I worked in video stores for about 8 years (4 of those at Blockbuster) right up until the end when they all went kaput. So this movie hit very close to home. To this day it's still the most enjoyable job I've ever had, and I still miss it.
After watching the Scream Factory box set here is my complete ranking of the Friday the 13th series. Really wish we'd get a new film soon
1) Friday the 13th
2) Part 2
3) The Final Chapter (Not really final but 4th film out of 12 lol)
4) Part 6 Jason Lives
5) Part 3
6) Part 7 The New Blood
7) Remake (surprised how much I enjoyed it on rewatch)
8) Freddy vs Jason
9) Part 8 Jason takes Vancouver err Manhattan
10) Jason X
11) Part 5 New beginning
12) Part 9 Jason Goes to Hell
I see that you can order popcorn from Cineplex & Landmark through Skip the Dishes, does anyone know if Chinook or Shawnessy are open to walk up to the concession yourself? Calling leads to an automated loop.
I can recommend this one, even if it is fairly light fare. Equal parts nostalgia/zeitgeist/information. I nearly lost it when she was fixing the computer using spare parts and she showed the infamous POSEM floppy disk that had the ENTIRE COMPUTER PROGRAM on it. I had flashbacks of fixing computers during major rushes and losing my mind in the process.
I don't think people realize how outdated that POS system was for that company, even as early as the mid-1990s. Astonishing. But, I guess it didn't need to be fancy, just functional.
It really hits the nail on the head as to why any Blockbuster was really successful: creating connections with the community. I know that sounds crazy for a giant faceless company like that, but truly, that's why people kept coming back.
I saw that they put the entire store on Air BNB last August for a unique experience. That's pretty cool:

It was great for people working at these stores, too. I worked at an independent video store just out of high school, and a few times I've worked in jobs that have been chasing that feeling of community. An instrument store, music store, and higher end liquor store. I spent a chunk of this covid trying to get backing into taking over a craft beer/wine store partly because the dedication to make something like that work is so much easier when you have an emotional template of what you want to build.
I miss video stores in general.

I hear ya brotha. Community can be found, but it really is rare in any business environment. I deeply miss the camaraderie with my employees, but also, the regulars. It's sorta like the local coffee shop or bar. It just has that consistency in employees and clientele that make it part of a community.
In the movie, I particularly appreciated the aficionado/academic who was extolling the virtues of a physical experience with media. I thought she made several excellent points.

I watched The Last Blockbuster that same day, loved it, got a bit emotional towards the end as well.
Anyone else used to visit "In The Loop Video" in Marda Loop? I lived a few blocks away for a good decade, loved the old guy who ran the place. I would regularly rent 2 movies at a time, while returning the next day I would think "well, I'm here now, let me pick something else up", and I'd do the do the same thing on the next visit.
Was really sad when they closed, I continued to hit up Casablanca until they also closed up.
