Also, the worst martinis (plural - I wanted to give them a second chance on an extra dry vodka martini with olives, but nope) I've had since being served one at a friend's house a long time ago "well, I've never made one before. What do you think?"
Have had great meals on prior visits; it was still a nice place to be and the service was fantastic as usual, but the kitchen was really off...
Anyone else been lately? Was it an off night, or has it gone down hill?

I have been twice and both times disappointed. For the price you could go to much better places.Like the Ryuko Omakase which is about the best way to impress a lady if she likes sushiand Japanese.
Luca gives me all sizzle no steak vibes. Really flashy but not great food. A product of the gram generation

Went to Milpa tonight, really good food. Especially the quesabaria and the rajas pablano.
I was a little disappointed with the al pastor, the presentation was awesome but the flavour a little off.
Overall might be my new favourite Mexican place.

I call Luca “suburban pasta”
You and the wife come down town for a fancy night out and the glitz and glamour. It looks and feels fancy but there is way better food around in much more dingy settings

Their seafood dishes really shine.
Plus the coconut ceviche is a must

Milpa is outstanding. Great service and real authentic Mexican food. Not your typical taco stand thats for sure.

I thought the ceviche was boring. Quesabirria was delightful as was the tostadas.

The coconut ceviche is good but it needs to be paired with something bright and acidic to balance it out, like the tostada or the citrus-marinated octopus that I can't remember the name of now.
The ceviche by itself can get too thick/creamy if that's the only thing at the table.

Finally tried 10 Foot Henry last week. I know, late to the party!
I knew it was good and had great reviews. It did not disappoint. We had the scallops, hamachi, cauliflower and the squash. All were fantastic.
It's a busy place, but it wasn't overly loud and the service was very attentive without being intrusive. Which is all you can really ask for.
We will be back.

Recently checked out Da Vinci's Steakhouse downtown on 8th Ave, across the Globe Theatre. It was fantastic!! Ordered the 36oz Tomahawk platter special. Steak was cooked to perfection, presentation was fantastic. Sides were excellent (stuffed potato, Caesar salad, caramelized veggies, home made fettuccini) Appy's were fantastic (muscles and shrimp scampi)
The owner is also the Chef and the attention to detail is extremely evident as is the use of top notch ingredients such as the homemade pasta, the REAL parmesan cheese, the garlic butter and the Canada Prime Steaks.
Only minor complaint I had is that the wine we started with was the only bottle and had to change. Overall a 10 and a new find.

Had a meal at Teatro the other night, they are back on point. 10/10. Excellent lamb with a beautiful marrow sauce and sautéed mushrooms.

Was there last week as well and had one of the best meals of my life... Fois, Risotto, Osso Buco - all phenomenal. A few minor hiccups with our serve that seemed to be brand new, but nothing bad enough to take away from the fantastic food.

There's a new Smitty's Restaurant in Legacy (#570, 20 Longview Common SE). It's called the "Smitty's Test Kitchen." That's where they come up with innovative dishes.
There's also a new Denny's 24 Hr in Edmonton...

Just went to a lovely little Nepalese place called Aama...on the west edge of Cochrane on 1A a couple of traffic lights past the Hwy 22 interchange. Little - maybe 40 seats or so; delightful food (the Momos!) and a variety of small and large plates...veg and meat both well covered, although the menu is not huge.
Looks to be family-run and everybody in the place pitches in. The smoked..and I mean SMOKED Old Fashioned was excellent, too, surprisingly. Lamb ribs charred and moist...fantastic.
Reso suggested. Worth the drive IMO (albeit that we are camped in downtown Cochrane right now, so the drive was short). Noted as one of Avenue Mag's top "new" restos of 2024.

Is there a place in Calgary to get a really good Philly cheesesteak? Most searching online has everyone laughing at the idea of finding anything resembling a quality philly cheasteak here.
