I’d take Tij Iginla and I don’t think it’s close.

Other than his last name, what makes you think he's worth more than Parekh plus a protected first? Nothing in actual on-ice performance since the draft dictates that.

Zayne is good do not get me wrong… he is not Tij Iginla. If you have the chance to trade Parekh for Iginla 1:1 it’s a total home run and you take it 10/10 times. Holy ####. Can’t even believe I’m having this conversation but super reflective of the bias on this website. Wow.
He absolutely was, did Tij break any goal scoring records for his position? Parekh had more goals and 5 more points on defence. Parekh plays a premium position and the Flames have a shallow prospect pool when it comes to defensemen currently. Parekh is more valuable for the Flames. You take the potential of a #1 RHD over a potential top line winger every time.

Well I watched the juniors. Zayne was phenomenal offensively but also defensively not great.

Iginla was probably the best forward. Borderline in the tournament? He’s a better player with a more predictable future upside than Zayne who’s a bit of a who knows. He could be a phenom. He could be a bust. Iginla is a lower risk play with about equal upside.

If you offer Parekh for Iginla straight up? Utah rejects. 100%.

Also not that weird. If it was weird, people wouldn’t propose a bunch of trades involving Zayne for Tij haha. Like get real. You think they’re on the same level?

If Tij was available when the Flames picked Zayne would not be a Flame right now. So no. Not crazy. Actually wanna know what’s crazy? Thinking they’re super comparable.

Otherwise why not just propose 1:1?
People propose that trade because they have no nerve and got anxious about his progression this year, and the other guy's name is Iginla. That's not indicative of a gap between them. Parekh just set a world juniors record and is playing in the NHL. Iginla is still a Kelowna Rocket. Why come in so hot about this?

Anyway Rhett Warrener strongly suggested that Conroy/Iggy Sr weren't going to draft Tij because the pressure and expectations would be too much for that kid in Calgary. Maybe you could make that same argument about Catton. You could never prove it and it's totally pointless, but you could make it

I think people propose the trade because Iginla is a better player with more certain upside and Flames fans tend to bias towards their own prospects but is usually nonsensical.

I think if Iginla was a Flame and Parekh was a Mammoth we’d be having an equal debate in the opposite except I’d be jumped on 1,000 times more because the obvious is the obvious. It’s okay to admit not everything is perfect in Flames land.

A lot of people watched the WJC. I did not see anything that either puts Tij ahead of Parekh, nor anything that even makes him the best forward for Team Canada, let alone the entire tournament. Very bold take for a player that had 9 points in 8 games.

Equal upside is crazy. Zayne scores more from the back end than Iginla does as a forward.

You just described every singe fan base lol. It’s called optimism, pretty sure there is far more complaining about the Flames org on this board than compliments. I am not sure what fanbase you are referring to but the one that lives in perpetual lala land is north of Calgary. Nothing crazy about fans preferring the player the Flames picked at 9 over the player Utah picked at 6. It’s not that crazy to understand why we like the dman who has a history of setting point records everywhere hes played.

You did say similar so maybe it's not quite as good, but that's a lot.

I have no idea what the package was. It was described to me as "a pile of good building pieces, same as the Hughes trade." So that is a pretty variable term.

Oh sweet! Can’t wait to talk to dino7c! Wonder how dino feels about things!

Glad you felt the need to weigh in. How would you feel if Iginla was a Flame and Parekh was a Mammoth? I can tell you, you don’t need to bother responding.

Ya like have you see him play defence, though?

I mean it could also be said you are just being an Iginla fanboy
all the stats, especially at that position would say Zayne has a far higher upside...its just math

I always know someone has a really good case on the facts when they start with the personal insults lol

Zayne plays defence like Quinn Hughes did, we could only be so lucky

Dino, over the years, it’s clear you’re not worth talking to about hockey or the Flames generally. Move on, because like Jay you’re not worth talking to. It’s kinda like that same night Jay was making his bed, and you seemed to agree with me but were basically sort of a coward in your defense of my position, because of our general history in discussions on this site over time. Things get obvious. I’m not interested in discussing anything with you. We know where you stand on every topic. Move on.

Is that the barometer? Whether or not they’ve played pro yet? That make sense to you for the value discussion?
